I was thinking about buying a video of Mika Nakashima in concert. It's an import and coded Region A. I'd hate to buy this and find out it won't play on my Blue-ray player. As far as I can tell, both US and Japan are region A. Am I right? Also, the whole idea of "regions" is to prevent viewing of films that haven't been released in a particular country, right? So, what's the deal with the US and Japan sharing the same region on Blue-ray?

This is the deal with BluRay region codes. Just 3 different regions. India and Japan are the same as the US. Seems to me the people who come up with these dumb standards just got a little less stupid. They're launching more films simultaneously all over the world (like Spiderman 3, which premiered in Japan and Europe and India - in several Indian languages) on the same day. Why are they hanging on to regions codes at all? There's an old saying in Japan, "The only cure for stupid is death."

BUT it is Blu-Ray 1.0, 1.1, or 2.0?

Just a follow-up. My Mika Nakashima Let's Music Tour 2005 Blu-ray arrived today. I wasn't sure if it would play as yesasia.com incorrectly lists it as "region code 2." It plays. I'm watching it right now. My Blu-ray sat in its box unopened till today.

Mika Fan!
