Mao-mama and I are having a chocolate duel... We both win of course, but it's fun.
Vosges Exotics collection VS. Joseph Schmidt Valentine assortment. We already finished the Vosges box, which was exquisite, subtly flavored with exotic spices but not in a way that the spices dominate the flavor of the chocolate... almost perfectly balanced, although some combinations are more successful than others. The Joseph Schmidt truffles are more conventionally flavored, I think, but we're looking forward to eating them tonight.

I was too lazy to put together a Valentine's Day InuYasha icon so I decided to use this one since it had the right color scheme. :)
He (yes, another anime boy who looks like a girl) is Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho. This is his mild-mannered human form. His demon form is called Yoko Kurama. Kurama popped up in a discussion about Ultimate Hunks. Also, his weapon of choice is the "Rose Whip" and what can be more "Valentine's Day" than roses? |

That's very nice of you, NLee.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
Lucky for me, Tira from "Sorceror Hunters" (my present icon - thank you, NLee!) has the right color scheme (and attitude!). |

I got out the electric waffle grill this morning... it makes 4 heart shaped waffles per turn. I found a really good recipe for waffle batter so I'm posting it here. With the waffles we had maple syrup, chocolate syrup, strawberries and blood oranges.
Waffle recipe article: Finally, A Crisp Waffle
Actual recipe (this was offline this morning, so I had to hunt around on google for an archived link to it).

Nice to know that I actually "reached out and touched somebody" today. (*rub rub*)
I'm watching "Modern Marvels: Candy" on the History channel right now. Does that count? |

Reviving an old thread a couple of days before the Greeting Card companies' favorite contrived holiday, and to point out a new poll:
Favorite Type of Date Movie?
Have at it! And recommend some good Valentine's Day rentals for couples and singles and quirkyalones and so forth.

I chose the art flick option in the survey. An art flick always makes a good date. It gives you something to talk about afterwards.
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! |

Happy Valentine's Day! My movie recommendation for this day is Death Wish because vigilante movies will make you feel empowered despite what Hallmark will try to make you feel like on this day.

I've put it in my queue now, but I admit I've never seen the movie Candy yet. Does the dwarf keep saying 'rubadub' while he's rubadubbing, as in the book?
And speaking of dwarfs, that Little Red Ridinghood cover illustration for Harder Candy reminds me totally of Don't Look Now. Can't be a coincidence. |

"Candy" was a crazy movie from 1968 (Buck Henry was one of the writers) with Marlon Brando, Richard Burton, James Coburn, John Huston, Walter Matthau, Ringo Starr, John Astin, Sugar Ray Robinson, Anita Pallenberg and an alien who comes to Earth for sex.
I wish it was on DVD. The Byrds did the theme song. |
