Am I the only one excited by this season's crop of holiday releases? Little Big Planet (in two weeks), Fallout 3 (in three - you should really check out the comics on the website...make ya fear puppets again), Resistance 2, Mirror's Edge, Call of Duty 5. Then there's Gears of War 2, Left 4 Dead and Fable 2 (wanna be a drunk lesbian?). And Dead Space, which just creeps me out too much. I'd love to play it, but I'd just end up screaming and throwing the controller at the tv...repeatedly. It's why I'm not touching Silent Hill 5.
There's going to be a new Tomb Raider, but to me, Mirror's Edge looks like more fun.
Originally, I was all about Fallout 3. I mean, c'mon! Killing people with teddy bears? WOOT! But now I'm more excited about Little Big Planet. The more I see of it (especially the Sackboys in the Wild trailer), the more I want to play it and just stare at it for a few hours while saying "Awwww!"
Off-topic: Wal-Mart is a dirty, dirty place. I've been back two weeks and I'm already sick. >:| |

I saw a HUGE billboard for Fallout today right on Hollywood and Highland in LA. At first I thought it was a military recruiting billboard because the URL on the bottom was something cryptic like "prepareforthefuture.com". But dang, killing people with teddy bears? Sounds crazy! But fun.
I have recently become addicted to nintendo DS, since discovering yoshi's island, cooking mama, zookeeper, and brain age. I'm getting the hang of sudoku, pretty neat!

well you mention a lot of FPS but I hope you will be playing them on PC and not console as playing a FPS on a console is just wack...
That said in order of things im looking forward to this fall
Fallout 3 Left 4 dead (pc) Grand Theft Auto 4 (pc gta is far better on pc than console) Silent Hill 5 Dead Space.
Thats it. Should be some amazing games.

*gasp* No Little Big Planet!?
I generally play FPS on console, yeah. I'm aware that it's "better" to play them on PC, but since I usually hang out on Linux, I'm not too keen on PC gaming (beyond RTS). Plus, a number of those games are console-only. |

eh out of the FPS the only likely console only game is resistance... gears of war came out for pc, 2 should eventually as well :P
the reason why fps are better on pc is simple... controls... you have far more control over your character in a FPS than PC especially with regards to aiming...
I dont know if it bothers you but most FPS on console give you auto aim... which means your aim reticule homes in on the target rather than it actually taking skill lol.
Which is kind of necessary as gamepads are not well designed for FPS in the first place... I am definitely a purist but to be honest there is a good reason... if someone were playing on a pc with an xbox 360 controller against me they probably wouldn't get one kill on me.
The exception to that rule might be the WII but that is more of a point and shoot game than anything else. Would kind of kill the point of an FPS. |

Dead Space and SH5 are on the top of my list.
Right now I'm about 30 hours into Disgaea 3.
I don't like FPS on consoles either. |

What, no Mirror's Edge either? I actually think that game might have the potential to be one of the best of the year (along with LBP and F3). It doesn't look like it'll be easy either. I'm probably going to buy it after positive reviews, but I'll spend the entire time shaky and breaking out in cold sweats. Yes, I'm afraid of heights, even in video games. You should've seen me play some of the levels in Spyro.
As for FPS controls...I played the free Half-Life 2 demo...but once I got to Ravenwood (or whatever that town was called), I lost it. I'm not used to the PC controls enough to play FPS very well. Man, I'm barely used to gamepad controls (I'm still getting my ass whooped in Call of Duty 4).
On another note...if I get drunk and play GTA IV online (with or without free aim), I rock. Sober, I'm mediocre. A friend of mine who is in the top 100 on one section of multiplayer lost to me the other night in several matches...while I was smashed. Not only that, but I hadn't played GTA IV in several months, couldn't even remember where the buttons were for 15 minutes! |

Unfortunately it didn't fall into the hands of any testers I know, so I've only seem them. But they're still great.
I don't think demos were released to the general public. I did seriously consider flying or road tripping to PAX as they were demo-ing it there but I didn't. |

well there also is the inexplicable fact that console games are generally 10-20$ more expensive than there PC counterparts...
why would you pay even 10$ more for an inferior experience again?
Yes I said inferior... if you have a PC game and a nice PC (which most people think are more expensive than they really are) you can get better quality graphics and more importantly game mods...
Now fallout 3 is not supposed to have game modding built in like Bethesda (the company that made Fall out 3 and the Elder Scrolls series) had in Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion... but that said Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion ABSOLUTELY SUCKS without the mods compared to how great it actually is with user made modifications.
Its night and day... now that said Fallout 3 doesn't seem like it will have the poor game design problems that ES IV had (mainly the absolutely poor choice of randomized loot and scaled enemy leveling)
Ive even done a few game modifications myself, in Grand Theft Auto 3 I put myself on several billboards so when you were driving around the city I would see myself on the billboards... believe me that never gets old (I am awesome)
I also made a black mage mod for Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind...
sadly the hard drive it was on crashed so all I have left is this screenshot I took Morrowind Black Mage
Ive modded more games but generally only minor gameplay mods that fixes the game problems... Made and Edited maps for Warcraft III etc etc. |

what can I say? at the time I was a big 8 Bit theater fanboy (I stopped reading it a long time ago) and I wanted to stab some s*** and cast HUGE lightning bolts at people for fun.
I seriously made a greater power (usuable once per day) that was a lightning based attack that would pretty much destroy anything just for fun...
I loved Morrowind, Absolute amazing game... It was superior to Oblivion in sooooooooo many ways... I just wish it had Oblivion or better graphics... gameplay, story, quests, roleplaying it doesn't get any better than Morrowind...
I just hope bethesda stops with those insanely annoying crash to desktop bugs... hope thats not in Fallout 3 |

Oh lord 8 Bit Theater. I don't think I've read it since I was like 23 or 24.
You say 'for fun' as if there are *other* reasons to stab s*** and cast huge lightning bolts at people.
No really black mage mod wins. Next time we discuss orange chicken on a public forum throw that card down and I'll have to concede. The coolest thing in my photobucket account is simulated comic book rape and that's somehow not as cool.

again...'for fun' as if there are *other* reasons to destroy things with lightning

Morrowind was quite amazing for so many reasons. It's probably one of my favorite games. I usually can't finish rpg's because they lose my attention span after awhile, less quickly it's really structured with main quests that I have to finish before moving onto the next thing. Morrowind is so good that despite it's freeform design it still kept me.
Oblivion doesn't even compare save for graphically and I'll take the not so great graphics for good gameplay any day. |

well there is one problem... Oblivion had superior combat gameplay... it was better by quite a bit...
Sure I miss levitating and shooting things til they died with arrows or fireballs or ninja stars lol etc but the combat with spells and both ranged and melee weapons was a lot better done in Oblivion...
I got really good at Oblivions combat, I can pretty much hit stuff and dodge all the enemy attacks by timing... I LOVE dodging arrows... especially using a tree/rock/wall as cover and zig zagging wildly.
When you start throwing mods in there Oblivion wins on graphics and gameplay... but the story was incredibly boring and quests were lame and cliche and predictable. (besides the Dark Brotherhood quests which lets face it were totally awesome)
If you have Oblivion for PC get the OOO modification for it it adds quite a bit of epic quests, new dungeons and fixes the problem oblivion had with enemy scaling (works to eliminate it mostly) and there are locations with static items in them.
Its a bit dated now as he hasn't even touched it since before Shivering Isles expac came out to my knowledge anyway but it still works in the regular Oblivion areas even with that installed.
Thats the best mod but there are plenty of others.
In my mind Oblivion without mods is a 6/10 but with Mods is easily a 9.5/10, they make THAT much of a difference...
Morrowind out of the box is a 9.5/10... I really do love both games but I love the combat in Oblivion a lot more.
Morrowind combat kind of sucked and I like I said I just exploited the hell out of Levitation...
I love playing stealth characters in ES games... Oblivion added new dimensions to that with respect to lighting...
If I could only take one with me to a deserted ISLE I take Morrowind though.

I have Morrowind for my PC but Oblivion for my 360.
I like that there were more skills in Morrowind. I will say that combat was smoother in Oblivion, but leveling not so much. Also I like the throwing weapons of Morrowind.
Honestly I put a lot more into Morrowind than Oblivion. I prefer my PC over the 360 so maybe if I got Oblivion for the PC I could be swayed.

Dodging..I do that in GTA when someone is trying to snipe, or when free-aim is off. It's a little weird though when you're trying to dodge the sniper and end up running straight at another enemy. *sigh*

Does said deserted isle have something you can play it on, or are you happy just having it near you?
I'd bring an axe. Hacking on s*** would be useful, and hacking on natives would be fun. |
