Red Vines absolutely rule the red "licorice" world. The local Edwardsregalgoogleplex switched to Twizzlers, which made me hate them even more. Twizzlers are like eating vinyl.

Which one do you like? Red Vines or Twizzlers? Something else? Place your vote.

This was inspired by angelina in the movie trivia thread, natch.

i've already placed my vote, but for the record:

RED VINES FREAKING RULE

i'm also a fan of raisinettes. yummy. the theater in my neighborhood, the red vic, also sells black cherry soda which is a rarity.

twizzlers seem to me like what would result if you ripped vinyl piping off of a cheap ottoman and dipped it in cherry lipsmackers lipgloss. but nastier.

my two cents.

Funny, I was just having this discussion with my g/f. I said how, when I was a kid, we used to buy Red Vines and use them as straws for drinking 7-up. Disgusting yes, but that's a positive thing for an 8 year old boy.

However, sorry, I have to disagree -- Red Vines, which are basically red dye #2 and plastic or whatever, are pretty disgusting to me now. Twizzlers are hardly better but at least they have ones with actual flavors, that taste vaguely like...something.

What I really like are those Panda licorices, now those taste almost like food.

But still, if you want a fun straw, try Red Vines.

Just m-h-o.

red vines are better for you. twizzlers have trans fats and red vines don't!

i prefer strawberry twizzlers to red vines, but this is moot, because both oral experiences are empty compared to the jaw-empowering satisfaction of panda licorice.

I like black licorice myself, the kind in the decorative tins.

The panda thingies probably have actual licorice in them.

pandas are made of molasses, wheat flour, licorice extract, and aniseed oil for flavor.

fun panda fact: the panda licorice box always has an illustration of a realistic panda eating a bamboo branch, but the corporate logo shows a panda eating a piece of candy. this leads the foolish (like me) to imagine himself munching on bamboo as he watches a movie.

Red Twizzlers, yes! All black licorice candy are majorly icky. Give me an actual piece of licorice root to suck on any day.

red vines straws with slurpees! i'm in heaven... all frozen and gooey on the inside. mmmmm.

gchq is located near a 7-11, by the way. that makes this particular treat quite easy for me to enjoy on a daily basis. which also explains my hyperactivity on the message boards today...

(i know panda ingredients because i bought a handful of them on sale this weekend and there was a wrapper right in front of me just then.) (my favorites are the raspberry ones - be the reds!)

I tried Twizzlers once and decided that I don't like eating vinyl. Silly me, I thought all "licorice" was like that. Still, I am not big licorice fan - even the Real Thing that is the nation snack of Finnland, the people of the pitch.

Sooo, I guess I have to vote for...chocolate!

These days, I'm sticking to the ginger candy from Indonesia. That's suiting me just fine, thanks.

You're kidding, right? Or you've never been to a movie theater in the United States?

They are a chewy red plasticky straw shaped candy that are full of zero essential vitamins and minerals. Breakfast of champions!

A new favorite movie theater treat -- at the Embarcadero Landmark Cinema in San Francisco they sell *refrigerated* Junior Mints!

I had an exgirlfriend who liked to mix candy in with her popcorn, either Jordan almonds (ugh) or M&Ms or Junior Mints. Not as gross as you'd think.

I would call that twizzlers. Is this a West coast thing, because I don't think I've ever seen these in any of my movie theaters.

Yeah, I think Red Vines are a left coast thing, or maybe a left U.S. thing. They are made by the American Licorice Company. You can buy them online.

Looks like the panda is winning!

I love Junior Mints, but I think they have trans fats. Blah.

Between Red Vines and Twizzler, I must agree with Angelina -- RED VINES RULE!!! When you eat a fresh Red Vine, you get a bit of chewy resistence while a Twizzler cuts thru like overcooked penne made with old flour. It's all about texture. The faint fruit taste in a Twizzler also detracts from the pure chewing experience.

I detest licorice and anything anise, so those panda things don't sound appealing at all...

However, if they sold Sour Punch Straws at movie theaters, I would be all over that! Texture AND a bite!

Panda makes a strawberry flavor one, too -- that's my favorite. It is funny that people call Red Vines "licorice" since, technically, licorice is a flavor that naturally derives from the plant of the same name. And too much licorice all at once can be toxic! Ugh. Yeah, I prefer strawberry.

I'm with you on the sour thing, I have a major weakness for sour candies and the straws are the best.

As far as my colleagues' weakness for Red Vines, well, if it's a texture thing, I can understand. If it's for flavor...? That stuff's nasty. Sorry. You guys need serious help. ;-)

But give me a bag o' sour patch kids and I'm set for life.
