ramadan's over! time to eat!
those of us who were fasting and those of us who were not, can continue directly on to enjoying whatever kind of celebratory meal we think is right for the time of year and their personal appetite, and we can stand cleaning up afterward.
good seasonal seasonings to all, and to all a good flight. |

What is this, a GreenCine Carol?
One reason I love to cook on Thanksgiving is that the other family members won't let the chef clean up. I get to linger over my piece of pie while the non-cooks wash the dishes.... Reason enough to hone my roasting and carving skills!

Five essential things that I tend to take for granted:
5. Public Transportation
4. Lighters, Running Water, and Ice - When homosapiens were primitive, our survival was dependent on keeping the fire going and praying for rain. Now we can summon fire and water with a flick of a bic or a turn of a faucet.
3. Bandanas - a simple piece of fabric that has a hundred uses: Keeps your hair out of your eyes, wipes up spills, blow that snot out of your nose, and many others. Why use wasteful disposable paper towels, napkins, or tissue when cheap reusable bandanas are just as functional and comes in a variety of fashionable colors and designs?
2. Strangers - I love how I can walk up to any complete stranger anywhere and ask for the time, and they almost always are happy to oblige.
1. The Internet - my computer was down for a day and a half this week. I had no idea how much I relied on it for all my news, communication, and resources. I don't have a phone book or a dictionary in my house. I've grown accustomed to being able to research any obscure piece of trivia that crosses my mind without having to leave my bed. I'm particularly thankful for my two favorite websites: IMDb and GreenCine. |

My greatest treasures are my friends and my family. A cliche, but one that never dies. I love this ole George Burns song about "Use things, love people, don't the reverse".
My and my main bud have this thang we always do, we start talking about about film and then one of us will tell the other, "YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THAT? WE GOTTA RENT IT AND SEE IT TOGETHER!", so finally we did. This time, it was "Reds" - produced, directed by Warren Beatty and starring him and Diane Kenton, Jack Nicholson, and Maureen Stapleton. About the beginning of communism through the eyes of Jack Reed and Louise Bryant, early American radicals and it is also one of the greatest love stories of all time. And 196 minutes of GLORY!!!
Besides enjoying a love story that warms the heart and tugs at the tears, we learn a bit of histroy and that if you take out the music and the fashions (and, I know, that is A BIG PART), the 60's was a retread of the 10's! If only this period in history was taught more in the 50's, one HELL of a lot of trouble might have been averted.
But I made it. Not unscarred, but I mostly intact. For that I am thank you and tonight, I toast those fallen comrades who do not.
Blessed Be. |

Having been a retail wage-monkey, in my younger days of wine and madness, I would like to say: Good Night and Good Luck! To anyone brave enough to fight in the thankless trenches of holiday retail shopping, I salute you... and pray you find something more conducive to your sanity/happiness (you'll save a small fortune from buying less booze as well ; )
PS. IT'S SNOWING IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST LIKE IT'S GOING OUT OF STYLE!!! (which, according to Al Gore, it will be).
Peace. |

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
I'm thankful that I survived two car wrecks this year without, hopefully, permanent damage. I'm also thankful that my cousin's a good cook. That tiramisu tonight was wonderful. |
