I had "The Bourne Identity" on top of my queue since last Friday. I sent two dvd's back Saturday and GC received them today (Monday0. However, when I checked my queue, I got the second item on my queue (Dodgeball) and another title, which was like number 23. What's the deal? Is there a priority formula as to how long you have a "soon to be out title"? I'm .... :)

That's a pretty new title, isn't it? Are you sure it was "green" today? Maybe someone else was ahead of you in line...

Well, it still has the release date on it. So, the only explanation would be that GC hasn't received it's copies yet, but if that was the case, why don't they just keep that slot empty for me? As you know Hamano-san, new releases on Tuesdays are actually received on Monday (the day before), so GC'ers can receive them (mostly) that very Tuesday when they are supposed to be available. That is why I am in such a quandry (well, more than usual, is that even possible?..?).

Howdy Mr. Kohnfused,

I'll try to cut down on your kohnfusion a bit if I can... based on what I know and what the shipping dept. tells me.

First, I assume you meant Bourne Supremacy, not Identity (the first one), right?

With this title, if it didn't go out to you, it's because other members got there before you. Factors that come into play in the queue system (without revealing all of its secrets) include how many copies we have of a given title and who's before you in "line", as it were.

Of course if you absolutely only want one particular title before all others, no matter when you'd get it, then you could lock your queue with that one at #1. But that's only in rare circumstances; use with caution and only as directed; etc.

Remember, too, that queue availability statuses change several times a day, every time we run an update. If you saw Bourne as green, it's probably right before we ran our next queue update and before it was assigned to someone.

And yes, to clarify one last point: We do ship out titles officially releasing on Tuesday, on Mondays, because people will not recieve them until Tuesday at the earliest. We did get this one in stock today, and shipped them all out (which doesn't always happen) on same day. More will be arriving soon...

At any rate, hope this makes sense, and sorry for any confusion.

Best,
C of GC

Thanks for the clarification Craig. And yes, it was the "The Bourne Supremacy". Also, I did have it in as no. 1 on my queue. I thought that maybe it was because there was only so many copies that I didn't get it, even it was on my no. 1 slot.

I guess my real question is, if I put a "to be released" title weeks or even a month ahead of release, does that guarantee me a copy? Sometimes I'd put a "to be released" title" the day before it's release and I would get (having an empty no. 1 slot helps, of course) sent to me. That's why this incident kind of took me by surprise.

Does that make sense?

Here is the main problem with your concern. There is no way to guarantee you will get ANY disc.

basically, to get the best odds on getting a new release, you should queue it up as early as possible and make sure it's at the top of your queue on the day it's going out. (oh, and you'd need an empty slot too.) but there's a finite number of copies going out, so there's always a chance you won't get it right when it's released.

thanks for your patience ...

Dude, don't complain about not getting your #1 pick. Wait 'til GC starts sending you stuff from up in the 50s and 80s in your queue. Then you'll have something to complain about.

Yes, I have received movies from up in the 80s. Never had that happen on my OTHER Internet/mail order movie membership.

Not even with a conveniently-timed holiday present for GC headquarters? Brown-nosin' doesn't get you anywhere?

I suppose I'm just kind of ambivalent about the whole thing. My queue right now is in some semblance of the order I would like to receive them. But except for the shows I would like to see in episode order, I really don't care what order they arrive in my mailbox. I figure they'll be here when they get here. There's nothing I need TO see immediately. If it was that critical, I'd be scouring the freindly neighborhood video stores (where I can rent five library titles for five days for two dollars!), instead of suffering through the vagaries of the USPS.

Let me know where/when I can donate for that. I think Craig still has his eye on that new Ferrari.

Hah! If only it worked that way. No special favors granted for special gifts... so I'll have to continue to make do with my crappy '84 Prelude and the occasional foray on MUNI. (((However, although I can't accept bribes, if you feel like making an auto donation to me for all my hard work, I am hoping for a Honda Civic Hybrid.)))

Been a while sinnyg.. ever since you got into the fansub world.. it just hasn't been the same..

MUNI is the public transit system in San Fran I believe. I took the bus once.. much cleaner than SEPTA.. the latter being #1 or #2 in the country in terms of cost of fare. Now they REALLY suck..

You mean MUNI wasn't an acronym for something? I was wondering why neither "S" nor "F" appeared in the acronym during my visit... Have they had a "Show me the MUNI" advertising campaign yet? :)

FYI, SEPTA = Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. It extends outside of Philly a little bit but for the most part, it's the system that we are stuck with here in the city..
