EDGAR G. ULMER: The Man Off Screen (Dir. Michael Palm 2005 77 min.) This investigation of Ulmer's amazingly protean career focuses on the genesis of his classics "The Black Cat" and "Detour," and features interviews with the latter film's femme fatale Ann Savage, his daughter Arianne Ulmer Cipes, and directors Peter Bogdanovich, Wim Wenders, Roger Corman and Joe Dante.
I find myself obsessed with Ulmer sometimes, just the idea one how he worked and remained so unknown by so many. I love the interview Bogdanovich did in "Who the Devil Made It" and wish I could have met him.
He reminds me of Mario Bava in the way he could take so little and make it work.
I want to see this documentary, yet can't find it anywhere near me. Have you seen it yet?
Let me know.
