Here's a new topic for ya.

Wondering what the heck happened to [so and so]? Well, here's your chance, here's your space, to ask out loud. And maybe some of your GreenCine friends will come to your rescue, telling you what really did happen to that actor.

I got two to start us off with:

Emily Lloyd, so good in Wish You Were Here.

Dennis Christopher, who starred in one of my favorites, Breaking Away. I guess he was in a Profiler episode or something recently but...

Meg Tilly! I miss her. I absolute fell in love with her in "The Girl in a Swing". Many of you might remember her from "The Big Chill". And her little sister is quite famous.

I miss Meg Tilly, too. She was nekkid a lot in "Girl/Swing" but I don't think it was one of her best roles... She's still one of my favorites who have "retired" or not been very visible (Lesley Ann Warren was a real looker in her day, AND a good dancer... Nastassja Kinski was great in the right roles, so beautiful, though a bit skinny... ) Thank goodness Susan Sarandon and Jennifer Tilly are still around!

Meg Tilly Obsession:

Although Meg hasn't made any movies lately, she has been busy! She has three children - two by 1st husband Tim Zinneman, whom she divorced in 1989 and a third by actor Colin Firth. In addition to a busy personal life, she also wrote a novel titled "Singing Songs" which I thought was pretty good! I have added a page here where you can learn a little more about her novel, and read a short chapter. Meg reportedly is working on making a movie out of "Singing Songs", but is behind the cameras this time. The last major news I have is that she has parted ways with (ex?) hubby John Calley, and that she may be getting married to someone new.

Oh, and I SAW Meg Tilly once. Mao-mama and I were having dinner at Chez Panisse in Berkeley, and she arrived with her entourage to have dinner. I think she was on her book promotion tour, when she wrote that novel... She was radiant! The food was great, too.

Yeah, this page is looking really bright and... pink now. Very cheery and spring!

I, too, like(d) Meg Tilly -- it's interesting how it's her sister Jennifer who's become the more prolific of the two of them. Who'd have thought the more ditzy-ish of the two would have the better career (such as it is).

You may be too young to have seen Jennifer's appearances on Politically Incorrect and The Arsenio Hall Show (she was one of Arsenio's favorite guests). Not only is she curvy and hilarious, you could tell she's really really smart.... I have nothing but the highest respect for her. There IS some controversy about which Tilly sister is older, though. Apparently on official records Jen was born in 1958 and Meg in 1960 or something.

Anyone else ever seen Abel Ferarra's Body Snatchers? Meg Tilly has a pretty good role in that film, her character has a nude scene, but I'm pretty sure it was a double, IIRC.

Speaking of Body Snatchers, whatever happened to Gabrielle Anwar? She was getting the press's Keira Knightley treatment and then *poof*.

And what about Whit Stillman? _Metropolitan_ made him look like a wunderkind...the "WASP Woody Allen" was the monniker attached to him. Next thing you know, nothing's happening with him.

And remember when Nastassia Kinski was doing all arthouse roles? If she were a little younger, she probably woulda pulled a Kate Beckinsale, starred in some actioner flick and would still be kicking butt right now. Not that she doesn't...she would just be kicking *more* butt.

dennis!

Last time I saw her was on the cancelled TV show "John Doe" as a recurring character, some kind of brainy neurologist or something. She was pretty good, with her creamy voice and charming English accent, and she was in 3 episodes as Doe's love interest... she had some nookie scenes with the title character.

Wasn't Terminal Velocity an attempt at doing that? Beautiful KGB agent, right?

Actually I do sort of remember the Arsenio appearances. I should have been clearer, too, I didn't think she herself was/is a ditz, just the characters she's sometimes played (the pinnacle of which would be Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway) -- because of her voice, a little higher than Meg's, or whatever. She's good at that role, but other types too -- quite talented. Both of 'em.

I crushed on Gabrielle Anwar, too, when she was in that mediocre horse movie (but she was well-reviewed in it)....

Yeah, Whit Stillman, whatever happened to him?? Metropolitan (STILL not out on DVD, sigh) and then...well, I sort of liked Barcelona, but the one after that was a dud and maybe it killed his career? Who knows. Perhaps he's teaching film in NY somewhere.

"What the heck has Ken Russell been up to?" I asked myself. "Making a movie about Tesla of all people," I replied.

Nastassja Kinski is a celebrity crush of mine, and I'm a huge admirer of her talent. She's one of the greatest actresses in my opinion. This is frustrating because a cursory look at her filmography has her in a shocking amount of horrible movies. She always did a few stinkers, but nothing like her recent output. It's a horrible shame, since Kinski remains one of the most untapped talents around.

Already two of my favorites from back in the day have shown up (Meg and Nastassja). Another that I think deserves mention: Karen Allen.

She brought an element to Raiders of the Lost Ark that was sorely missing from the other Indiana Jones movies; humanness maybe. Her last lead role was what? Starman? She was great in that too. The listings here pull up several recent titles, but I think she mostly does small roles lately.

And what about Ally Sheedy? She seemed on the verge of a full comeback with High Art, but what has she done since? Good Night to Die???

Maybe if we rent Searching for Debra Winger, we'll get some answers. Has anybody seen it yet?

1) I could have sworn I added the quotation mark to fix that.
2) I could have sworn I pressed the Preview button.
3) D'oh!

I was curious about Sarah Holcomb, but sadly IMDB.com had this info:

"A drug and alcohol addiction was the reason for her leaving acting altogether."

Karen Allen, for some reason, was my favorite in Animal House. Unfortunately, I always got her confused with Carrie Fisher and that crazy lady that played Lois Lane.
