Okay. C'mon.

Off the record, on the QT, and very hush-hush.

At least Rick McGinnis has something to say about the Kate Winslet photo debacle!

hadn't heard of it. i don't think i was the last in america to read this about magazine photos. i can laugh at them a little better now, like laughing at florid personal ads, that's a nice thing.

two things come to mind about this particular question. one, kate winslet is hot. whenever wherever however and she's probably nicer to be with when she's fed and happy. (did they alter the baby's physique, too? that would have been a good scandal. "we added a little fat on the face, enlarged the eyes, curled the toes, darkened some hair...")

two, the question people are asking is, what's the ideal kate winslet, the ideal or "right" appearance of Woman, when the question really seems to be, wuss, why don't you go get a porn magazine if you're so horny, and read culture mags for inside info on the lies you already know you're seeing in artwork.

i see a lot of ordinary women in the movies i watch and i like them better... "yeah, right" isn't the deflating flip side of "take me harder" or "honey be careful." even hollywood's perfect girl, born with a silver whatever in her mouth, is outmatched by the look that an adult woman gives to a man filming her with his Toy.

the real tagline - "i'm busy, talk to me while i work" - leaves nothing to the imagination, unless you can keep pace with her and see how her work becomes fantastic in sequence and rhythm.

(and reading further in that blog, about LOTR again, i'm just amazed, why hasn't anyone written about the books or the movies as questions of self? once suitably frustrated by the inadequacy of different top-level, literal readings, why aren't people going deeper? maybe people don't get what scholars like tolkien do, why they pursue that life. frustrating!)
