The DivX faq is a little unclear on something.
DivX movies can be played by a variety of players on Linux or Mac or other platforms. For instance, I watch DivXes on Linux with mplayer, and it plays them a lot better than the DivX Player or Windows Media Player do when I'm in Windows.
Why, then, does the FAQ say DivX is Windows-only?
Is it that the DRM that allows you to watch the movie for 10 days only is tied into the Windows DivX player somehow? If so, then I think the FAQ needs some serious clarification to prevent people from assuming that it's an error of ignorance (i.e. that you just didn't KNOW anything but Windows could play DivXes) and not intentional, rent a movie anyway, and be in for a disappointment. |

yes, it's tied to the DRM.
yes, the FAQ needs to say that this divx player is required to play the movies.
anybody who reads "PC only" and "requires windows" and "requires direct x" and still throws down good money assuming the seller doesn't know what they're talking about is a loon.
(thread about it in case you missed it) |
