I thought it might be cool to see who everyone thinks would win if great anime series were matched up:

1. Cowboy Bebop vs. Trigun

2. Fushigi Yugi vs. The Vision of Escaflowne

3. Fruits Basket vs. Azumanga Daioh

4. Twelve Kingdoms vs. Berserk

5. Boys Over Flowers vs. Marmalade Boy

6. Macross/Robotech vs. Mobile Suit Gundam

7. Inu Yasha vs. Rurouni Kenshin

8. Fullmetal Alchemist vs. Neon Genesis Evangelion

Very though choices. Let us know who wins and why. Have fun!

Berserk wins. End of discussion.
(I say that, but somehow I doubt that it's really over)

Someone wanna put together a bracket?

Battle Athletes Victory and SuperGALS would defeat all of those, if only they'd let girls play in the same league! It's not fair!

Well, question: if it's JUST the series, then it's not fair. Pick the game, is it basket ball or something else? How many on a team beyond the 5 if it's Bball? Do they get their powers if they have them.

COme on, clarify!!

What's the spread? Can we get an update on injuries? How are they ranked?

Very well chosen matches!

1. Cowboy Bebop vs. Trigun

Well, since we're talkin series and not character on character-- I say bebop over Trigun. Because while Trigan matches pace and action wise, Bebop's overall story is just a little more heart wrenching (comparing final episodes) and the cast of characters a little more colorful.

2. Fushigi Yugi vs. The Vision of Escaflowne

The Vision of Escaflowne wins the second round. They're pretty much equally matched but Fushigi Yugi went and continued on after the initial series and RUINED it. Comparing comes down to the OVA's and V of E wins in my book.

3. Fruits Basket vs. Azumanga Daioh

Fruits Basket vs Azumanga Dioh. That's hard. So we hafta be technical. Azumanga Dioh is longer in anime volumes. But Fruits Basket has more manga volumes. Azumanga Dioh is funny as hell--but so is Fruits Basket. Azumanga Dioh made me a little misty eyed while Fruits Basket did not. Yet Fruits Basket has all the pretty bishies... This is a draw.

4. Twelve Kingdoms vs. Berserk

B-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-BESERRRRKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!

5. Boys Over Flowers vs. Marmalade Boy

Boys over Flowers sooo wins over Marmalade Boy, though they both have excellent plot twists. But I like my romance a wee bit seedy and through the entire Boys of Flowers series there's what? I won't spoil it but, Marmalade Boy wins there. But what's key is that I wasn't traumatized after Marmalade was over as I was with Boys over Flowers. And Boys over Flowers turned my mother into an anime watcher. (Which my sister hates--mwhahahaha) And the music is so damn catchy. Stepping out on an ordinaaary Sunnnday...

6. Macross/Robotech vs. Mobile Suit Gundam

I can't be fair here. Robotech got me started ages ago. I'm completely biased.

7. Inu Yasha vs. Rurouni Kenshin

Man. I gotta pull back from this one too. ...I CAN'T! ..but I have to.

8. Fullmetal Alchemist vs. Neon Genesis Evangelion

This is hard because even though NGE is more thought provoking because the creator is a psycho--Fullmetal Alchemist's doesn't make you feel the need for Cliff Notes after it's all over. But for me, I don't think you can really compare the two--they seem to be in completely different leagues. I'd say a fairer comparison is Neon Genesis Evangelion vs Raxephon and Fullmetal Alchemist vs. Orphan, or something like that. But it's still a good match because it gives you a headache to decide. ^_^

Okay I'm done! Wooooo!

***For #4--12 Kingdoms wins. It just does...

Come on now! You didn't get misty-eyed when Wolfwood bit it? Oh man, that one even made me bawl the second time through. But I also agree that Bebop wins, because of over-all better execution of storyline.

I agree with you again here. FY was good, but it was totally drawn out too much. I can only take so much "miaka!" "Tomohome!" Ad naseum.

Ok, I can't agree with you on this one! Fruit's Basket, hands down! I actually never made it through AD, I thought is was a little boring. *dodges rotten veggies from AD fans*
Fruit's Basket is really funny, and I thought it was very moving as well. Plus there's the hot bishies, can't argue with that!

Berserk still wins in my book. I was feeling very traumatized at the end of Berserk which is a sign, to me, that a show is really good. Honestly am having trouble wanting to finish 12 Kingdoms (damn, would they just stop talking and do something?). And Guts and Griffith vs. Yoko and Rashukun, is there really any debate there? Heehee. Course, Keiki is pretty hot, but that's not enough to win me over.

I agree. HYD is a lot more fun, though I thought that the plot to MB was pretty interesting, the execution just didn't do it for me.

I know it's blasphemeous, but I've never actually watched either of these! I'm not much into the sci-fi/mech fighting genre of anime.

------------------------------------

Ewww... now there's a tough one. RK had a slightly deeper plotline, but IY is much more colorful and adventerous (and it's a favorite of my daughter, hehe). Both were entirely too long and without satisfying conclusions. Now if we were talking about the Samurai X OVA, I'd definitely have to go with that.

I agree, they don't seem to be a good match cause they don't really have that much in common. Though I enjoyed FMA, I'm still going to have to go with Eva cause it's the anime that made me into an otaku. Plus the only anime that has made me feel more like I wanted to slit my wrists afterward was Wolf's Rain. FMA was good, but it never managed to fully realize its potential.

So we have:
1. Cowboy Bebop 2 Trigun 0
2. Fushigi Yugi 0 The Vision of Esc. 2
3. Fruit's Basket 1 Azumanga Dioh 1
4. 12 Kingdoms 1 Berserk 2
5. Boys over Fl. 2 Marm. Boy 0
6. Macross/Robo. 0 M.S. Gundum 0
7. Inu Yasha 0 Rurouni Kenshin 1
8. Full M. Alch. 0 Eva 1

Fullmetal wins. I recently saw NGE for the first time and I thought it was overrated. I think if I saw it ten years ago I would have liked it a lot more.

1. Cowboy Bebop vs. Trigun

I have to go with Bebop on this one although I really like both of them (I'd go with Outlaw Star over these two though).

2. Fushigi Yugi vs. The Vision of Escaflowne

I haven't seen Escaflowne but it must be better than Fushigi Yugi. I hope so, at least.

3. Fruits Basket vs. Azumanga Daioh

I like Azumanga Daioh's music better (thanks a lot, hamano!), but I have to go with Fruits Basket.

7. Inu Yasha vs. Rurouni Kenshin

Inu Yasha, of course. A bit less angst and a bit more fun is always a positive.

8. Fullmetal Alchemist vs. Neon Genesis Evangelion

Fullmetal Alchemist is more fun, I think. At least my bf would watch FA whereas NGE drove both of us crazy.

Oh, okay, I get it now (sorry, I'm so bad at sports)...

> 1. Cowboy Bebop vs. Trigun

Trigun wins because although Faye has that killer bod, I'm a BIG fan of Milly Thompson, who reminds me of my sweetie. Well, my sweetie isn't as strong as an ox but she's really sweet!

> 2. Fushigi Yugi vs. The Vision of Escaflowne

Escaflowne wins.... better music, better plot, better ending, better art, more cat girls.

> 3. Fruits Basket vs. Azumanga Daioh

I don't know why these two teams are even playing each other, but of course Fruits Basket wins. If it was just Hana-chan vs. Sakaki, it would be closer, but Fruits Basket still wins.

> 4. Twelve Kingdoms vs. Berserk

12K wins, because Keiki turns into a demon and rapes Youko right in front of a helpless Rakushun as the world faces the apocalypse.

> 5. Boys Over Flowers vs. Marmalade Boy
> 6. Macross/Robotech vs. Mobile Suit Gundam

I've only seen about a quarter of those...

> 7. Inu Yasha vs. Rurouni Kenshin

Kenshin wins I think... is he allowed to use the sharp side of his sword?

> 8. Fullmetal Alchemist vs. Neon Genesis Evangelion

Again, why is NGE playing FMA instead of RahXephon? Did Ayato get a stomach virus or something during the playoffs? FMA wins.

WHAT!?!?
I'm hyperventilating.
Please tell my that's one of H-sensei's twisted anime sum-up jokes and not an excerpt from volume ten...wait, isn't that the plot line to Urotsukidoji 2? ....I'm very confused...and scared.

@Afleming,
I totally forgot about wolfwood in trigun. I remember being more mad than sad and saying I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS, THIS SERIES SUCKS! And I probably threw the dvd remote against something hard. The whole ordeal is still a blur....
