As time passes (and partially due to listening to the soundtrack), it becomes more and more obvious to me that I must buy Azumanga Daioh.... But I'm holding back for now because I think a boxed set might be on its way.
Anyone know anything about when I might expect to find it?
(and if it's out already, where can I find it?)

Aw, can't you just rent it? Actually, I own it already. Why do you wanna buy it? You can rent it. From GreenCine...

I have rented it. My rule is, "If you want to see it again, just buy it, because there's sure to be a third time...."
Plus this is something I'd like to be able to have around should I ever attempt to convert new diciples into the Anime faith.

Just get volume one and the last two volumes. You won't watch the other ones more than once!

Personally I love the whole series, and there is no legitimate reason why! :)

I buy what I will watch over and over, and rent what is usually a one time view.

Azumanga is just pointless good fun.

Aw. I like your rule better than mine! We'll mine isn't so much a rule than it is "if you are run across an interesting art box/DVD cover then buy what's released of the series because most likely, it won't suck. And it's been pretty much 60/40.

I have a rule like that, too, but there's a counter-rule that says I should try to rent it and see at least one episode before spending my money. Very rarely do I buy something I haven't seen before - and only in special cases: Chobits, FLCL, Lunar Legend Tsukihime, Flame of Recca and Samurai Champloo are the only ones. In the end I was a little underwhelmed by Chobits, but I don't regret buying it at all; Flame of Recca is quite underwhelming, but I don't regret it yet...

Was lucky enough to find the US releases on eBay (sans the pins) for a good enough price.

Chiyo-chan seems to identify with a little something in each of the characters and loves the humor. It's her favorite series. She describes the Azuma-sensei as "brilliant". I tend to agree. It's too bad that the series had to end in just 5 DVDs.

Anyone know if Kiyohiko Azuma is cooking up something new?

Why not? We could find lots of stories in Chiyo-chan's (the animated one, not mine) college adventures in America. Osaka would be an interesting student to watch as she becomes a teacher. Sakaki finally gets a place of her own (and a CAT). Tomo will cause havoc wherever she goes (and she did want to become a policewoman). Maybe she'll still have some wild misadventures with Yomi. Kagura can still provide us with some sports oriented humor.

Maybe we could also have another batch of girls taught and tormented by Nyamo-sensei and Yukari-sensei (respectively). We can call it, "Azumanga Daioh: The Next Generation". After all, the Yukari-kuruma still runs doesn't it?

And I wanna see boys! Where's the first loves man!! Where's the innocent yet naughty crush revealing episode w/ Sakaki and Kaorin?! HMM?! It ended on a good note but I agree, more wouldn't hurt. Maybe Azumanga Daioh the next generation is in the works. How cool would that be? Your filling my fragile mind w/ madness. I'm having a Princess Nine flash back. Noooooo!

It was a fun show, but the characters weren't strong enough to stand on their own. They'd have to do it like 90210, where after High School they all go to the same college, and then all work at the same trendy nightclub.
