I'm starting a new thread since the last one exceeded 10 pages...

But they fixed him in this one by getting Norio Wakamoto, the voice of Chiyo-chan's dad from Azumanga Daioh, to voice it. That guy's voice just cracks me up.

Wakamoto gets around... he does the title character's voice in a new show, Yoshinaga-san-ke no Gargoyle. I don't know what to think of this show... Gargoyle is a statue... some kind of robot guard dog statue. He talks and he can zap people with electricity or heat so far. He's very serious about his work as the guardian of the gate to the Yoshinaga family's home. In the first episode he zaps an unfamiliar paper-boy. But there's something compelling about the show in a Narutaru sorta way...

I like Gargoyle more than another new show I just watched, Garasu no Kantai or The Glass Fleet. Kantai drew my curiousity being a Satelite AND GONZO project. But basically it's Last Exile with some Utena and Rose of Versailles thrown in the mix. There's a superficial resemblance to Crest/Banner of the Stars but Stars was a much better show. There's some swashbuckling here but nothing we haven't seen before.

Here's a promising first episode... Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, or "Around the time the Higurashi Sing" which takes place way out in the boonies somewhere, around the students of a one-room schoolhouse. Higurashi are a type of cicada, I believe. There's some kind of old murder mystery where an arm was never found, a dream a character has of hacking up a body, a trash dump that seems to conceal something... There's a great deal of harem-style gakuen silliness (most of the major characters are girls at the school, while the protagonist is a boy who recently moved to the area).

Hmmm... there IS a strong element of this being another role-playing type game based story (which this title actually is, I think) but I liked Elfen Lied (although there doesn't seem to be any SF or monster aspect here...) so I think I might like this.

Twin brothers are sent to a prison planet due to a plot against their wealthy and powerful father. That's a pretty thin synopsis, but I have faith in Hana To Yume which typically runs quality shoujo titles. Enough faith to check out a few eps.

It's basically about a guy who goes to an all boys school who gets elected to dress as a girl to give the school some feminine appeal.

I just watched the first episode of Nana and I thought it was lovely. Kinda aimed straight at the audience who would have liked Paradise Kiss, I suppose... college age kids coming of age, entering young adulthood, in Tokyo, yadda yadda.

The premise is "The Odd Couple" except there's a young girl who is all bubbly and excited about starting a new life in the Big City, and a more serious seeming punk-rock girl that she meets on the Shinkansen on the way there. They end up sharing an apartment and.... ??? I'm looking forward to the next episode. Friendship, yuri romance... anything could happen at this point.

Who likes short shorts? I like short shorts!

Black Lagoon ep. 1... if you can imagine the SF live action show Firefly, except it takes place in the tropical seas of Asia in the present with a ragtag team of mercenary pirates.

The main character seems to be a nerdy Japanese salaryman who looks and acts like the twin brother of the advertising company drone from REC. But the OP and the promotional materials are riddled with pictures of one of the pirates, who has two big pistols and two even bigger assets as well as the aforementioned short shorts. Her name is Revy?!? Must be a nickname because the pirates give the nerdy salaryman, whose real name is Rokurou the unlikely moniker of "Rock"...

I have no idea where this show is going but it looks to be a fun ride.

Three new fantasy type shows...

Himawari (Sunflower?) - Strange intro sequence... apparently the main character was being transported in some sort of futuristic-looking plane inside some kinda life support capsule when the plane crashes. She's left to self destruct but a ninja guy saves her just before she's blown up. Skip forward a few years, and she's a teen hoping to get into a prestigious ninja academy which is split into a boys' school and a girls' school. She's a bit of a klutz but she feels indebted to a young teacher who comes to teach "how to be normal" to the ninja girls. This guy doesn't really want to do anything as freakish as teaching teenage ninja girls how to be "normal" but he owes a lot of money so he has no choice. He agrees to let the wannabe ninja girl with mysterious origins make him her "lord" that she will serve as a ninja vassal... So this will be some cute haremy gakuen type show like MaiOtome I think.

Yumetsukai - Part of the score rips off Harry Potter music big time! The girls here, a pair of sisters and their auntie, are not witches but "Dream Masters" or Yumetsukai who battle nightmares that wander into the real world to wreak havoc. Cute enough show, but the main positive point for me are veteran voice actresses Aya Hisakawa and Ayako Kawasumi in a couple of the lead roles.

Utawarerumono - "Those Who Will Be Sung" is the literal translation of the title, but in this case "sung" as in ballads and sagas by bards... so it's more like "Those Whose Names will become Legend" or something like that. Pretentious title for a video-game setting... There's a mysterious man who wakes up from an injury wearing a mask that won't come off. He's lost all his previous memory, so he has to slowly make sense of his predicament, which involves being under the care of a village of people who have animal features like tails and fox ears and wings and such. There's some kind of big tiger beastie in the Forest who is the local nushi or "lord spirit" and the nushi is mad for some reason. I'm slightly intrigued by this show, but it could get dumb really quick...

There's also a really dumb new SF show called Soul Link which is like a ripoff of Stellvia which was a ripoff of Battle Athletes... there's a military academy on a satellite, and we're supposed to follow the lives of some young cute cadets as they go through their training... Lots of fan service, but not as much fan service as Joshikousei (High School Girl), which seems to be taking the premise of Azumanga Daioh minus the clever whimsical elements and adding lots of panty shots. My advice is to stay away from these two shows.

I hate you hamano! :P

Nana is not only a live action movie, but also an anime? Hmmm..

Gankuen Heaven. Every time I see this set-up (young man/boy goes to an all boys' school, and little inneundos abound--such as the school's nickname, the BL school), I swear I won't giggle my hiney off. And every time I fail. I

Oh, I saw the first episode of Nana, and it looks like it's going to be pretty cool.

Another new anime, Ouran Highschool Host Club, has ep 1 out. It's a shoujo comedy romance that combines the familiar plots of "girl poses as a boy" and "poor kid in the rich kid school". Episode one was really cute and got a few chuckles out of me. The art is cool too.

Nana is not only a live action movie, but also an anime? Hmmm.. (I actually downloaded the movie, but zoned out before I even got fifteen minutes into it. Not sure why.)

Gankuen Heaven. Every time I see this set-up (young man/boy goes to an all boys' school, and little inneundos abound--such as the school's nickname, the BL school), I swear I won't giggle my hiney off. And every time I fail. I love Japanese women's sense of humor. :P

Kiba...I watched the first ep. It was eh, especially when the young kid went to a pretty world. I did like the mom's character design. She actually looked like a WOMAN. Shocking. Plus, the evil creature wasn't too bad (I didn't expect it from such a bland episode). And since I have nothing to download lately, I'll be watching it till the good stuff comes out.

I downloaded The Third promo, Utawarerumono, Air Gear, and Ouran High School Host Club. I've no clue why, except maybe boredom. Haven't watched 'em yet. I'll get the Black Lagoon promo and the first Nana ep. Not sure how I missed them. Think I've been brain-dead lately (been doing a lot of book reviews).

Princess Princess sounds interesting. I foresee sadistic innuendo to follow. Hopefully. >:]

Black Lagoon sounds interesting, provided it's pretty. :P

Zegapain...Giant robots. No.

Soul Link...Omg. My eyes unfocus just thinking about it. I saw AniDB's picture of it...it's a BBG. Big-Bosomed Girls anime. Ew.

Good Witch of the West - Astrea Testament. Uhm...Not sure about that one. Doubt it's my kinda thing, too pastel, but it might be worth watching.

I'm *still* waiting for the rest of Hellsing. :( When is it coming out?

I hope that's lotion or something on your hands! Waaah, Battie hates me... twice!

Juu ou sei means BeastKingStar. If it's a prison planet for boys maybe there are a lot of sheep there to keep them company... OK, I'm gonna get Ouran and give it a look. The website images look like CLAMP characters in Utena-land. First I'm gonna watch Black Lagoon again. Short shorts!

Mmm... I like the creepy ED sequence that's like the dark flipside of the NOIR ED sequence.

Revy and her awesome foursome.

I wonder what's with the sexy Russian kingpin lady... she seems to have burn scars all over her face and body...

Ooh, Ouran was pretty funny. Very attractive designs sort of CLAMPy and Fruit Baskety. But the setting is totally Utena-land, except instead of dueling it's afternoon tea. That's my kinda club let me tell you. Pass the cucumber sandwiches please!

So the beach/pool episode must crop up somewhere, as well as a bath/shower episode, where Haruhi's gender is threatened to be revealed?!? Veddy veddy cute.

This is a pretty nice one. Kinda Scrapped Princess with a bit of Orphen on top. There's a Harry Potter look-alike who apparently gets tortured in the second episode, hee hee.

ED song by Isako Saneyoshi, who did the wonderful OP/ED songs for Petopeto-san. I think I'll keep watching this one.

LoL! Indeedy. I think I'm just lazy and not typing precisely. I seem to have a lot of typos these days. :P

How could you've downloaded and watched all those animes we mentioned? Insane!!

Not at all! You start the downloads early in the day when you have to do stuff and deal with the kids and dinner and all that. (I have 3.0 Mbps DSL now) Some torrent downloads come in as fast as IRC XDCC downloads now...

By the time the kids and the spouse have gone to bed, there are a buncha new episodes sitting on your hard-drive waiting for you. These are all 15 minutes to 20 minutes long, some even shorter (like REC) because all the commercials have been cut out. You can watch 3 episodes in an hour! So even if I take a break to make myself a cup of tea, by midnight or 1 am I've seen 4 or 5 episodes...

Also I'm a big fat cheater because I don't have to wait for fansubs to show up.... I can watch the RAWS.

BTW, the first episode of xxxHolic was really good. In Japanese it's just 'holic... the xxx is silent.

There were a few bits that weren't in the comics, and Yuko is so funny. The art is of course exceptional. But the general atmosphere is much less sincere and earnest than Tsubasa, which is a plus in this case.

Boy, it must be really easy to fansub something that's already out in English language manga....

Mao-chan just watched Ouran... she thought it was "weird but funny"... I liked the trick with the light bulbs, which makes rewatching the episode fun... I guess the bulbs are supposed to look like the "call light" in the room where hostesses wait for customers to arrive... when a customer designates them their light goes on to signal them to come out, but in this case it's a clue to something else!

I think I'll look for the raw file... I'd like to see it without all the sub and supertitles blocking the nice art.

Thank God. I wasn't into all that seriousness Tsubasa had. >_> In fact, the only reason I watched it past the first few reasons was that blonde guy who made a queen look discreet. ;)

Ho ho, you'll like Ouran, then, and maybe Princess Princess even more. PP is sooooo strange. Good thing it's a high school and not a prison or reform school, or those characters would be in trouble. Anyway, there's lots of eye candy this semester for folks who haven't had any since Loveless....
