July 1 - 4

Who's going?

I'm going. I'm making a pit stop at my sister's place near San Jose before and after (plane tickets are cheaper if I fly out from there).
I'm going for the whole thing. Gonna have a blast. Rooming with some friends from CotRJ.
Gonna see Clamp, huzzah! I hope I can get some autograph too.
Who else is going?

Sounds fun. I wish I could go. I hear they're premiering the Full Metal Alchemist movie. Yeah, and CLAMP too. But its a bit far away from us. My husband and I did attend Anime Central this past May. Got the hotel room and everything. Had a good time.

Both of my otaku cousins are going. So, if you see a pair of Chinese, 20-something women around my height (one's an inch taller and the other an inch shorter) who look nothing like me, please say hi. :)

Actually, only the shorter one will be at the CLAMP event per se.

Gosh.... Luckee!

Sadly, this weekend I shall be up to my furry little bear-britches grading undergrad. lab work. Urgghh! *shaking clenched fist at the sky*

or

I may just call in "sick" and skip town for the Olympic Pennisula in Washington or somewhere in B.C. to go paddling...

If I had the coin to drop I would looove to go... but, alas I do not. Someday... *sniff... tear*

>Both of my otaku cousins are going. So, if you see a pair of Chinese, 20-something women around my height (one's an inch taller and the other an inch shorter) who look nothing like me, please say hi. :)

With the most recent census estimates for California's population at 37,175,015 (which is roughly 4,000,000 more than the ENTIRE population of Canada), of which Asian-Americans account for arpox. 13.5% (according to Census; which made no further divisions by country of origination) that would put the "total" Asian population somewheres in the neighborhood of 5,018,627.025 or roughly equal to the TOTAL populations of Los Angeles, CA and Chicago, IL (proper, excluding the burbs) COMBINED.

Now, if we assume a simple 50/50 split for men and women(not the most accurate, but the most convenient) that would put the estimated total of asian women in California at 2,509,313.5125, 500,000 more than the entire population of Houston, TX or equal to the middle-east nation Oman.

Taking this data into account, along with age and attendence of the young ladies at Anime-Expo, proximity and population density, it does narrow the field of view for jross3 in searching out the afore mentioned otaku cousins. Yet, one would say this would still be an incredibly daunting task without further guidance/assistance. If the expected attendence is in the thousands or tens-of-thousands, his chances of success are still 1000's:1 or greater. Jross3 would have to hit on every asian women he came across for the entire con in order to have any statistical chance of success (assuming he saw entirely new people each moment he was there).

okay, what I'm not getting is why you are figuring numbers at all. Whether there are 20 asian women in California or 20,000,000,000 asian women in California is irrelevant as this particular asian woman will be at the con, and it's weeding down the asian women at the con that matters.

Now, perhaps you were trying to calculate the number of asian women likely to be at the con but you drop the ball in calculation just at the point where that'd be relevent and simply conclude there will be thousands.

Actually the numbers are irrelevent for that as you had the percentage of 13.5 from the very beginning. If population of the con, is similar to population of California, then 6.75% of the members of the con will be asian women. But we all know damned well the population will not at all represent that population of California.

At any event, your "conclussion" that jross will have to hit one every asian women would have been true from the very beginning no matter how many or how few asian women there were to begin with.

And then why shouldn't he? "Are you IronS' cousin" will be met with either "Yes, get lost", "Yes, take me I'm yours", "No, get lost", or "No, take me I'm yours". Whether or not he succeeds in meeting this cousin, his odds have having a pleasant encounter go up with the more asian women he hits on.

Yes, it's just a ruse to get jross to talk to more young Asian women at the Expo. :P

They both wear glasses and neither will be in costume. Does that help? (Of course, jross knows how tall I am so the height thing is of some use)

well, I've learned that just because I may have an inability, that doesn't mean everyone has the same inability. (My inability to recognize faces for example.) But do most people have the ability to judge how tall a person is on sight? I always assumed three to six inches was a reasonable margin of error. Or did I just discovered another of my deficiency and it's reasonable to assume jross can judge your cousins height to exactly an inch shorter than you (as opposed to all the thousands of other asian women none of which will be an inch shorter than you)? Actually the simplest way to recognize your cousin might be to send a photo of one of your hairs and he can see your DNA and he'll simply match up the dna of all the women he sees with the dna closest to yours. Or maybe he can sniff all the asian women and find the ones that small similarly of iron as you do.

Don't be. One's an inch shorter than IronS and the other's an inch taller so neither of them are IronS' perfect height. With that sort of disappointment, why bother getting out of bed.

Ursus and I aren't going! We're the only ones who seem to scare the ladies (in the bad way that is...)

If any woman might actually be scared of jross (hard as that may be to imagine) they only need to be scared if they are asian, wear glasses, are about IronS' height, and travel in pairs. And that shouldn't be more than a few million by Urus' calculations.

Stanford had the reputation of having cadavers that had died under "stressful" situations or so I had been told. Of course, those med students might have been pulling my leg about this.

Sigh. I knew our boy wouldn't try hard enough. Did you give your cousins a good description of Jross. Are they asking all single males in their twenties? That shouldn't be too hard, should it?

Were they sitting around the house when men in pink suits come in claiming the are from the organ collection agency and time was now due?

I meant the cadavers but since you bring it up I guess I'm curious about the med students as well.

(from the location in question)

It's been a lot of so fun so far; you all are missing out. Geneon had The Indigo performing at their booth today (it was short, how often am I gonna get a chance to see them live?)
The line for the Clamp panel was... long. I didn't get in it. When they -finally- let people in line move as far as the door, it stretched from the third floor to the first floor, then snaked around in Hall D for a pretty significant length. I love clamp - but I hate long lines and interviews. Getting in a long line to watch an interview? Even if it's a relatively fun interview with Clamp? With the off-chance at getting a chance to get an autograph? yea... I obsess, but not that much.

I'm sure IronS's cousins told her the same thing... but finding any two people you don't know who aren't in a particular costume... yeah. There's a lot of people here. I haven't even bothered to look. It's totally futile. Let's all have fun seperately, huh? hahaha
