How I loathe begging. But here goes (he said hanging his pride upon the coat-tree in the hall):

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE REQUEST "Desert Punk!"

You won't be disappointed, it really is quite fantastic, humorous and bawdy. Help me bring it into the realm of rental here at GC.

REQUEST "DESERT PUNK!"

Whether you love me, tolerate me, hate me with a burning intensity equal to that of a thousand white-hot suns (seek help), I beseech you.

REQUEST "DESERT PUNK!"

Thank you.

Warmest Regards,
A. Pixel Junkie

You gotta make it easier for people to help you Ursie! But also I thought this show was pretty BAD. I am not requesting it. I don't care if other people do, but when I saw the fansubs of this show I was immediately turned off.

I agree, the fansub bites! The english dub by Eric Vale (who also plays the lead) is SO MUCH BETTER; having seen the fansub and the Dub side-by-side, the Dub makes it into an entirely different style of show, with much better writing and humor (especially for a western audience).

"YOU WILL," the deranged bear began, his eys the size of hypnotic saucers, "REQUEST DESERT PUNK!"
O_o
"yOu WiLL rEqUEST dESERT pUNk!"
"yoU wilL REQUEst desert punK!"
"YOU WILL request desert punk!"
"you will REQUEST DESERT PUNK!"
"yOU WILL..."
"yOu WIll..."

i also don't like what I've seen of it. There was a preview ep in a recent issue of Newtype, and I'm... just not interested. at all. no offense.
But I'll still request it if you promise to request Salaryman Kintaro. If it comes in, I'll even give it a rental and see if it changes my mind (granted I didn't watch the whole first ep...)
Salaryman Kintaro is (or could be) a good show. I liked the first ep, but since it got lisenced and (according to rumor and superstition) released, it has aparently totally disappeared from all media. netflix claims that it's available, but I don't believe them. they lie!!

Hmm... I guess this is a recent trend in anime, that they also tried with Gakko no Kaidan (Ghost Stories), where they rewrite the dub script into some kind of slapstick comedy that's essentially a different show from the original. Since I don't have much interest in watching dubs (unless it's the only interesting thing on TV when I'm stuck in a hotel or something) the issue is largely irrelevant to me, but I can see how new fans can crop up around the new parody dubs. It's been done before by no less than Woody Allen with What's up Tigerlily?

Okay, the first 2 discs of Desert Punk are available (so to speak as they are both red barred right now).

First disc is shipping out to me, today.
I'm chasing after Ursus with a Remington shaver if it sucks :)

Did you watch it yet?

I couldn't find any songs about shaving bears, so maybe this will have to do for now, my jolly boy!

YES!!!! UNBE-F@CKING-LIEVABLE!!!

Jross: I did request the "salaryman," per our bargain.

Artifex: You will NOT be disappointed, nor shall anyone else. This bear does not recommend crap! That bit about the remington was nice though, I had a good laugh (although I know you weren't kidding). I have seen up to vol. 5 and the series has not let me down at all. I laughed myself into laryngitis over vol. 5, and my neighbors nearly called the cops (they thought I was being tortured... what can I say; they're weird.)

YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!

Well, I HAVE heard good things about the dub script, so maybe it's okay... I still don't feel like watching it again, though...

Just got it and watched the first episode a few minutes ago.

It's... silly. But I like it so far :)

Why Thank You!

I don't know how I "Shiori-ed" myself into the "large" icon, but I await its: inevitable correction or hearing no end of crap from folks about how large the bear is... even if it is a most handsome bear at that ;) I personally find it rather resplendent and hope that nobody becomes the wiser, but seeing as the GC boards are akin to a gaggle of High School gossips smokin' in the parking lot during lunch (of which I am one; gossip, not smoker... unless you count salmon) I don't expect that "The Man" will let me coast on by with it, as is.

Congrats to you, Jross, on the Salaryman! I look forward to givin' it a look.

PS. Rent "Brick" w/Joseph Gordon Levitt (IT'S A HOOT! Especially for fans of Film Noir)

yay! it only took about a month and a half, but it's finally been shipped. I'll probably review it when it comes... or at least blub it on the boards.
