its super offensive but it really is great.
In a nutshell a normal guy who is something of a wuss is in a hardcore metal band... he sort of lives a double life and it leads to some hilarious humor.

Definitely worth a watch unless you are easily offended in which case stay far away. Lots of cursing in English in this one. |

| Why does it sound like that movie "Detroit Rock City"? Is it one of those things where they just plucked an American sounding phrase or place as a band name without it having much direct connection to the story at hand? Or does it have a connection? |

no relation to Detroit and through the first four episodes no reference to the city whatsoever. I dont know if Detroit is thought of as a death metal mecca or what, but other than the name of the band it has no significance that Ive seen so far.
Story is taking place in the anime in tokyo. |

I think it's cause KISS wrote a song called Detroit Rock City about a fan who died in a car accident on the way to one of their concerts or something...then a movie was named after it.
The only thing Detroit is really known for was hardcore punk turned yuppy vegan indie, and techno music...which God hates. |

Er, and Motown music. :-P Being Motown and the home of Berry Gordy and classic soul and so on.
Anyway, cool, thanks peeps.

I think techno viking would take offense to that statement, and I got techno viking's back!
This show DOES look awesome!! I hope it's like a fusion of anime and Metalocalypse.

ROTFL, this show is frikkin' hilarious! Great antidote to BECK, better than Black Heaven! I loved that part where Negishi was jamming with his college pal in the toilet.
Nothing really deep though, purely for fun. The president of Death Records is a riot. |

Nothing so grandiose as Metalocalypse. Aside from the heavy metal theme the stories play more like "slice of life" Azumanga Daioh-style vignettes. |

wow that is ridiculous that those guys essentially got away with that and the judge himself was a racist.
Granted this probably doesn't happen today (that was 26 years ago) but wow. That kind of pisses me off that happened and besides a small civil suit (200$ a month that the guy apparently isn't even paying come on) there was no real punishment.
Things like this just reinforce how stupid a lot of Americans are. I really can see Mccain winning and you know what? I think it would be fitting punishment. |

Huh, check this out:
Report: Detroit Metal City Gets Hollywood Remake Offers
"The Sports Hochi newspaper reports that the Japanese film distributor TOHO has received more than one offer from Hollywood film production companies to remake the manga-based Detroit Metal City film after it opened in Japan last month. Director Toshio Li adapted Kiminori Wakasugi's rock parody manga about a shy pop singer's rise to glory as the frontman of a death-metal band. The negotiations are reportedly still ongoing, but a decision is expected by the end of the year. There are also remake offers from Hong Kong.
In addition to the remake talks, the Detroit Metal City film already has distribution agreements for Hong Kong and South Korea. Distribution offers are said to have come from 25 other countries and regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Taiwwan, Australia, and Brazil"

| Yeah, they're talking about the live action film adaptation, not the anime adaptation. |

WHAT! It don't get better than Legend of Black Heaven
Required for all who ever played air guitar or even a real Gibson in a 10 megaton amp. And ladies, it will teach you a valuable lesson. Even if your name IS Yoko, never, never, NEVER throw away your man's Gibson Flying V. Or any guitar for that reason. That's just SAD!.
And that alien on the keyboards ain't bad. Not the genetic engineering one, the officer in the cat suit. |
