so there I am at the greencine homepage. One of my things to do is check out what is new to greencine. and whatta ya know IT'S PAGES AND PAGES OF PORN. This doesn't trouble me one bit, mind you I am a guy, what does trouble me is the selection. I mean it's a bunch of mainstream porn. I'm just curious if there is a porn underground, or is porn underground enough as it is. Or maybe I just want to see some friggin japanese porn, uncensored version please. Personally this is good for me cuz now I can rent porn instead of buying it. Now if greencine only rented videogames....

On a side note, who DIDN'T see this coming. All that talk of hentai even the genre of racy and erotic, you know the stuff they show on skinamax late at night. the not quite porn.

Eventually we would like to add "some Japanese porn" as you put it, the problem is finding a legit supplier of uncensored AND subtitled/dubbed dvds of titles that we want to rent. We have certain criteria for the titles that we are adding - they should be story driven, instructional or vintage erotica. We do carry quite a number of hentai titles (with more on the way!) and a few soft-core Japanese erotic titles. As to our selection being mainstream, we tried to cover as many interests as possible while remaining within our guidelines for selection. By its very nature, porn is hardly a mainstream category. Check out THE FASHIONISTAS, CAFE FLESH or LATEX and you'll see what I'm talking about.

When I started signing on with other internet DVD rental services, I was looking for things that NetFlix doesn't carry - particularly porn.

Porn was the main reason I tried DVD Barn, and I was very disappointed. They charged an extra fee to be able to rent porn, and their selection was very limited (they had only *one* gay title!).

Now GreenCine has porn and I'm very excited about it. 'a bunch of mainstream porn'?, It doesn't seem that way to me! I love how they introduced it in their typically classy style with a primer and an interview, and I love that their selection includes vintage titles, classic 70's titles, and gay titles to add to the hentai titles they already carried.

You want to see a mainstream selection? Check out what DVD Barn carries.

I searched the Girl/Girl subcategory and tonight there are but two title. I know it will raise! How high will it get? Greencine should contact Susie Bright (the San Francisian one, not the Austin one) as a consultant to build this category. I saw her in person, present a program called "All Girl Action" and it was soo amazing - she is a great lesbian lover of good porn and a great lover of lesbian porn. And I would love to see her write for this web site!

On the topic of underground pornography....

It's pretty much like the basic "cult film" evolution, no? Where eventually crappy vhs copies upgrade to crisper foreign prints and then onto bootleg dvds/LDs and eventually someone gets the rights tied down and released in appropriate (i.e. legit) fashion. And think of all the non-porn material still not available on dvd (Region 1 Jodorowsky, for example). So underground pornography? It's not yet even on the cusp of reality (not to mention that DVRs are the current ebay standard - yuch!).

However, there are some treats out there on dvd....the aforementioned Cafe Flesh (which has been called the ultimate "anti-porn" porno, although I prefer the soft-core Dr. Caligari), IKU (the unofficial Japanese sequel to Blade Runner - highly visual), and, well, sh*t, that's all I can think of for now (except for that Julia Taylor comp. - but then again, she's just my girlfriend & doesn't realize it yet; isn't that the case w/all these women?).

As for Asian bukkake - forget it, no dvd releases of the real thing; and unfortunately, no Takao Nakano (Playgirls, Exorsisters), Mitchell Bros. productions (The Taming of Rebecca, Honeysuckle Divine, etc.), very few films w/Desiree Cousteau (incl. Pretty Peaches), no much by the heavyweights of Mr. Holmes or 'lil Orphan Annie, and no Rene Bond in Teenage Fantasies. Pardon the metaphor, but does that suck or what?

Also, sometimes the 'underground' can get quite controversial when in comes to porn (not just the gang-bang #s of pure exhaustion), especially when it comes to legality & bondage. Gag Factor and Slap Happy are two recent examples, not to mention the stuff which calls back to Viennese aktionism days...(sh*t & piss). Does broken noses a porno make? How much is too much? When did pornography get so complicated?

As always, it depends on what you're into. Personally, I'm glad that Greencine has made this move. If you don't like it change the channel - chances are you'll find nothing there but crap.

Hey, where did the Hentai dvds go? Weren't they supposed to travel to the Adult section? Shouldn't they be in a subcategory or subgenre?

No wonder the Anime Primer is taking soooooo long. underdog's been busy prepping himself for the Candida Royalle interview. Imagine all the literature he had to read, the films he had to see, so he'd be able to do justice to the subject.

Can you now get on with the anime primer thing, underdog? We are all eagerly waiting! (sound of knives being sharpened)...

Hentai will become a subsection of Adult in a couple of weeks, which means if you're interested in hentai you should activate your access to adult or those titles will disappear from your queue.

I think the selection's quit nice actually. I've probably seen 20-40% GC got. The icing here is you can get your Adult *and* regular movies in the same queue system. If that does not seem like a big deal, it is.

I hope this means GC will "complete" their collection of Seduction Cinema titles! There were a bunch missing, presumably because they crossed the gray line between the softcore types GC currently stocks, and were much more like all-out

I tried DVD Avenue, and the high-demand stuff is always out. They had a mediocre selection of Adult and a very limited range of non-adult (and almost no Anime). I ended up padding my queue with second- and third-choice titles so I got something...

No extra charge for Adult, either. DVDBarn charges extra/month (and they do not have nearly the selection as GC).

Looks to me like Greencine actually did their homework, going for well-reviewed titles.. mostly "couple friendly" features with half a plot. Most of the titles GC just picked up are very expensive relative to non-mainstream titles.

And yeah, check out Fashionista's, but read a review of it before you do...

There are planty of review sites, such as internet adult film database , and write to your favorite GC staff. Tell em their are gaps in their selection, you want to fill their holes.

uh, what about lists. i want to make a list of just porn, with possibly "adult" material in the description. will non-porn customers see the list? will it open and be empty? if the list gets hidden, how many/what percentage of titles in the list would have to be porn before a list disappeared from the non-porn site?

oh and what happens when a non-porn customer follows a link to an adult title from a message on the boards or elsewhere in the system. do they get a "maybe when you're a little older" error message?

here's a link: hot buñuelian action, can somebody without porn turned on follow it, what happens.

regarding lists: a single adult title in a list is sufficient to make it an "adult" list, and subject to adult filtering on the site.

additionally, where reviews are concerned, any review associated with an adult title is flagged as an "adult" review and treated by the same standards. natch.

same goes for product display pages, genre listings and sub-genre listings. we've also got special articles (like that delicious candida royalle review by our very own wonderdog) that are considered "adult" in nature and filtered accordingly.

not to let all of the cats out of the bag or anything, but it IS halloween...

so uh, do we need an adult forum, and uh, what would it be like. hardcore chat? sex ed? anonymous coupling? amusing erotica-related anecdotes and film commentary?

okay if it's one title that triggers it, then people could do it by accident and make their list disappear from public view, so there needs to be a "adults only" flag for every such list, for each of these:

* in the "view your lists" page
* on the "edit list" page for the list, right next to the update list button (with another flag next to the adult movie(s) in the list? maybe a little blue dot, with an explanation? "movie marked with * are adult titles. lists with adult titles are visible only to members with access to adult titles.")
* maybe in the profile and member lists pages?

i know that draws a little more attention to the adult material than maybe is necessary, and the last could look like a judgment on the material. i just don't want to include something adult by accident, i may not notice the rating when i add the movie to a list. also some titles that became adults when the material was released (nice job everybody, BTW) could make somebody's existing list vanish, right, and they'd never notice, unless it was flagged.
