I just read the news that one of the greatest Mexican film makers passed away and then did a search in greencine database and I could not find any of his films. He made 59 films and won more than 200 awards not only in Mexico but abroad (1958 - golden globe for 'Tizoc', 1962 - golden globe for 'Animas Trujano' where he directs to Toshiro Mifume). He created one of the Mexican icons, the actor 'Pedro Infante' and was part of the Mexican Films Golden Age. Basically, Ismael Rodriguez is simply a must see for Latino American cinema viewers... and I could not find it in greencine.

You couldn't find any Ismael Rodríguez films in the GC catalog because none of his films are on DVD. Why don't you add some of his films to the DVD MIA Redux thread?

Okay, retract that, Dos tipos de cuidado and Daniel Boone, Trail Blazer are on DVD, in which case you can send an email to dvdrequest@greencine.com.

Thanks. I will do it. You know, it's a pity that many, but really many foreign good movies are not still available in DVD format. I wonder if greencine can push the dristribution companies for more of those films.

I'm sure they could push them, but they'd wouldn't have much pull...

money talks, as they say, and a fledling-independent-niche-online-rental-service isn't in any position to tell a multi-billion-dollar-a-year-corporate-conglomerate what to do.

BTW, you could also post some sort of tribute to Ismael (or just spread the word of his passing) on the Obits thread.

It doesn't stop us from trying, though.

Meanwhile, you'll now find Dos tipos de cuidado and Daniel Boone: Trail Blazer on the site.

Go, Greencine, Go!

I've always been one to root for the Underdog... or in this case, Gradalis.
