Has anyone but me heard of this one?
Puts anything pixar has done to shame
Visually it makes anything pixar has done look drawn by a 5 year old in comparison. Stylistically its a little out there but some of the scenes are just awe inspiring and just plain beautiful.
That said I dont think most people in the US have even heard of this movie and im not entirely sure why, sure its a foreign movie and its animated but still its pretty damn amazing. |

Duh, they already tried to foist that dumb show on us on Cartoon Network in 2006 and 2007 and it failed all three times. Now they're coming out with a movie installment, just like Bleach and Pokemon. The movie version will be in 3D, just like that movie about fly astronauts (what was that called? Fly Me to the Moon?).
Believe me, other than the "floating islands" world design there ain't nothing in that trailer that we haven't already seen PIXAR (or the folks who produce the Shrek films) do, execept some of the effects PIXAR has already determined they detract from the experience of watching the film they've abandoned it already (like super-realistic hair strands). So technically for PIXAR it's a case of "been there, done that"... thankfully PIXAR also puts a lot of effort into storytelling, which doesn't seem to be the case in Dragon Hunters.
And those character designs are uglier than that raging hemorrhoid on grandpa's butt. Anyone who was impressed with that trailer must have fallen for the Arthur and the Minmoys con, too. Did you go see that one? It's a bit distressing that they've packed the BEST most eyecatching bits in the trailer, so the rest of the movie must be much much worse. Brrrrrr...
Anyway, based on this trailer, my advice would be to stay away from Dragon Hunters. You won't be missing any innovations, and you'll save yourself from having to deal with characters that look like they were mashed together from bits of turd that were rejected by a discerning dung beetle. |

| Dragon Hunters Song... oooh, yeah, THE CURE! That's pretty cool. I love their Caterpillar song and the video for Close to Me was just AWESOME! Mark Mothersbaugh is scoring kids' TV, too, so I guess it makes sense.... |

| I like the song, and The Cure so I might be biased. But it's still good so who cares who made it? Also, Mark Mothersbaugh is pretty damn awesome. But I'm a closet Devo lover too. |

Heh, OK, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt until Dragon Hunters wide release in the US... I haven't heard any buzz on it, as you hinted in the first post. My feeling is that currently French CG is second tier, although thematically they handle more mature material than American film-makers.
I still think the characters look very unattractive.... ;-) |
