Has anyone here managed to see Pistol Opera, Seijun Suzuki's most recent film? I sent a request for the new Media Blasters DVD to dvdrequest@greencine.com, but have yet to hear anything.
Suzuki is sadly underrepresented on R1 DVD, right now it's just Pistol Opera and the two Suzuki titles released by Criterion (Tokyo Drifer, Branded To Kill). I don't know if any of the R2 discs of his other films have English subs. I think Suzuki has been directing since the 50s, so I've really only scratched the surface of his filmography, I think it's funny that the film that got him fired from Nikkatsu studios for being too weird is one of the only three of his films to be released in the US. |

i saw pistol opera last year and loved it and wrote about it here sometime, sometime. uh, hmm, i remember we were talking about kill bill but i can't find the conversation. hmm.
gotta love an assassin movie with a butoh sequence for a finale. or, at least, kowtow before royal madness. |
