Anyone here seen this recent Japanese horror film or it's sequel? (A Sam Raimi-produced American remake is in the works with the involvement of the director Takashi Shimizu, which I'm sure is going to use the quote "scarier than The Ring!" if the Tom Cruise-produced Hollywood remake of The Eye doesn't beat it to the punch). The reaction to it has been mixed, some people find it really scary, while others say "oh come on, that's only scary if you're about 8 years old", of course, any horror movie will probably have that range of reactions.

GC doesn't carry it yet, is there even a Region 1/non region disc with subtitles out?

(PS, what exactly does the little dagger icon mean? I always use it whenever I'm starting a horror movie topic)

I'd read about this movie, too. I want to see it.

Somebody thought the dagger icon was a pen quill. It might work for Shakespeare plays, too.

i've seen ju-on, or at least most of it (i'm a pathological eye-coverer in horror movies). it was frightening, though i have to agree with the common complaint about it--it was more like watching the climaxes of four different horror films put together than one coherent build-up. the obvious comparison film, ringu, is a better film, though ju-on does compare well on the creepy child meter.

as for availability, i can only tell you that my sister picked up a licensed vcd in singapore, which was almost dvd quality. you can probably pick one up on ebay.

Yep! I got mine on eBay for $47 including S&H. I was a 5 DVD set (DTS and region free/0) that included:
Ju-on 2
Ju-on: The Grudge
Ju-on 2: The Grudge 2 (2-disc)

Also bought the Ju-on: The Grudge with holographic cover.

These listing on eBay are pretty common.
There is also a Ju-on uncut version (Region 2?)that 6 minutes longer.
