I want to check out the TV series The Wire, but disc one season one is hard to come by. Has anybody watched The Wire? Is season one even any good? I know that some shows don't hit their strides until the second or third season. Is there another good point to jump in?

I LOVED Season 1 of The Wire. It took a little getting used to the hour-long format for me (as opposed to 30 or 40 minute shows), and at times I felt inundated with information and other times I felt delightfully confused. It does take a little time for the series to get the ball rolling but only because it's trying to show you SO MUCH and through so many perspectives. But it gathers its momentum very nicely. I'm only a few episodes into Season 2; I think you can jump in on a later season and not feel lost. We'll look into that disc 1 season 1 situation for you. It's a fantastic show.

That's what I hear. People really rave about it.

It would be nice to begin at the beginning.

Season 1 is great. Season 2 is good, not great. Season 3 is outstanding. Season 4 is even more outstanding. Season 5 is great.

There you have it!

Wow, season 1 was great, with lots of interesting characters and lots of interesting subplots all woven together in surprising ways. It was also quite powerfully moving at a couple of points.

I'm looking forward to season 2!

I loved the way Omar became the moral compass of the show. Great character!
