Okay, this is not what your usually think of as horror, but I was horrorified when I first heard on NPR that the Universal Studios backlot was burning. At that time, there was no word if the film vault was destroyed.
Now, I read at from AP that the the theme park's King Kong attraction was devoured, along with several movie sets including the courthouse square from the "Back to the Future" series.
Okay, but what about the vault with 40,000 videos and rells? Oh, plese, don't tell me these masters were lost! It was damaged but Universal is smarted than poor Margo Kidder was. They got backups at another location. YEA!
Insurance should cover the rest. And so far no reports of anyone hurt. No word about my personal favorite - a grove of tree when the Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan movies were shot.
I just hope they were thorough and ALL of those 40,000 masters had backups. I would like to see the U.N. sponsor several World Heritage sites with depositories of the world's video/film treasures scattered about the planet, stored skillful and digitally. Unless it is a Nick Bloomfield documentary. |

I agree, it's absolutely horrifying.
I'm on a film set today and we're behind schedule now because people have been running around all worried about it.
So far I've heard nothing definitive about the main concern on everyones mind: The video vault.
I'll be on and offline today so if anybody sees any updates if you don't mind posting a link or something here that would be super. |
