Since I didn't see it... .ok, I didnt look THAT hard.. how about the exact opposite of the other topic... and post what you think is the BEST OP theme song ever.
Then again, this is a bit harder, since there are alot of really good, if not great, theme songs to anime out there.
For myself, who got into anime in the beginning of the 90's and mostly had 80's anime to watch.. I'm still very partial to season 2's OP for Kimagure Orange Road.
I also find Ai Yori Aoshi's first season OP to be very emotional...
And Video Girl Ai's OP reminds me of SOMETHING, but I can't quite place it.
heh

There are two OP songs on my anime mix CD I keep in my truck that I think rival for my favorite OP song, depending on the day and the mood: the haunting OP from Elfen Lied, sung in Latin, and the OP from Last Exile.
My favorite ED song so far has to be Shiki no Uta by Minmi, from Samurai Champloo. I don't know if I'll ever get tired of hearing those ladies sing it. |

| Oh hell, what am I thinking? I have to add TANK! from Cowboy Bebop to that list of favorite OPs. It has a sax solo in the long version on the OST that kicks ass. Seatbelts was one tight group of horns, and the first time I ever played it for my brother he just said, "Damn. These guys are good!" Then he asked me to burn a copy for him. |

It was covered under this discussion, as I recall... Still it's probably a good new topic to post. A lot of my favorites are ED songs, though... And there are a few really good insert songs.
This list reflects my favorite anime OP songs, sometimes in spite of the fact that the show did not quite measure up...
Fruits Basket - For Fruits Basket Battle Athletes Victory - Tsubasa Haibane Renmei - Freebird Serial Experiment Lain - Duvet Super Gals - AITSU Revolutionary Girl Utena - Rinbu Revolution NOIR - Coppelia no Hitsugi Rozen Maiden - Kinjirareta Asobi Witch Hunter Robin - Shell Grenadier - KOHAKU Vision of Escaflowne - Yakusoku wa Iranai Love Hina - Sakura Saku The Record of Lodoss Wars - Adesso e Fortuna The Record of Lodoss Wars TV - Kiseki no Umi Ai Yori Aoshi - Eien no Hana Stellvia of the Universe - Asu e no Brilliant Road I My Me Strawberry Eggs - Dearest Key the Metal Idol - In the Night
Gee... I'm probably forgetting a couple that I really like... This list is roughly in order of preference, so I guess my favorite song is For Fruits Basket.
Non-anime OP songs...
Twin Peaks (Angelo Badalamenti... a real classic) Roswell (OK, this is a ringer because it was a Dido song, Here With You, and not especially written for the show....) Millenium (The first season's was the best, then they added echoes and screwed it up! Mark Snow, who also wrote the X-Files OP) Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel (Christophe Beck... I always thought the Angel theme was sort of the Buffy theme played backwards in minor tones... give both a listen and you'll see what I mean. I don't know if it's a real cello in the Angel theme, but that's classy!)

Oh, those ARE good! I love the "bagpipes" in Cloud Age Symphony and the way they make the Japanese lyrics sound completely alien!
I don't know if I'd like the OP song from Elfen Lied so much if it was cut off from the OP animation, though. I know you do, but I've been listening to it by itself and I think I like the synergy with the images better....

Nadesico OP (I get to burning everytime I hear it)
Lain OP (Duvet)
GitS - 1st GIG OP (more adrenaline inducing than the anime itself?)
Boogiepop Phantom OP (just a cool song despite having nothing to do with the anime) |

Ok, I should have said Fave anime song and let it be open to OP/ED and insert.
In the 14 years I've watched and collected anime.. the over all BEST music is from Kimagure Orange Road.... *obvisously an opinion, not concrete fact*.
The vocals for the OP/Ed and inserts.. the BGM... all of it.. almost every piece of music I can listen to, over/over/over again. heh
Of all the soundtracks I own.. roughly 200... and anime I've seen collected, roughly another 200/300... that's by far, #1.
May take time for me to consider what #2 would be.

I quite like TANK! and the Last Exile theme as well. My favourite at the moment, though, is Catch You Catch Me from Cardcaptor Sakura.
Can't really explain it exactly, but it probably has something to do with the comparison to the version put out on US television. Or something. |

| I liked the OP for Hellsing, most of the Inu Yasha songs, the OP for Escaflowne, and the other usual suspects. But I can't let this thread pass without mentioning Tsukikage Ran. If it's not the best song, it's at least the best song. |

| The OP for I'm Gonna be An Angel is annoyingly catchy. I have no best ever because I think one's the best ever then I over-listen to it until I become sick of it. I expect I will do the Same with I'm Gonna Be An Angel's OP. |

I like the Last Exile OP song too. Then there was one of the FMA OP's that was pretty catchy. I have no idea the name and I'm too lazy to look it up. I think it may have been the 2nd or 3rd or 4th one. (how's that for specific?) The Berserk OP was great too. I actually bought that album. |

| Trigun's "H.T." is fun and so are "Heart of the Sword" and "It's Gonna Rain" from Rurouni Kenshin. I like lots of songs from Inu Yasha, too. |

Cowboy Bebop is just by far the best. Fruits Basket makes me cry a little (especially after hearing the news of the death of the talented woman who sang the OP). Ai Yori Aoshi is a nice tender one too. Gantz is decent fun. And Hellsing is sweet as well. I may have also liked Gungrave's OP, but I can't remember right now. Oh, and I had .hack stuck in my head for months after watching that series. It's so confoundedly contagious! |

| I liked Berserk's OP too... more or less, anyway, but talk about being mismatched to the show! No, the real theme for the show is Forces. That one was a great song, and one of the best and best-matched insert songs in any show, anime or not. Berserk also had a really great score, but both the opening and ending themes just didn't fit, really. Imagine Berserk opening to "Forces" every week. "O unfading voices, revive now to your full strength!" |

Oh, yeah, that WAS a good one. "Gessekai" by Buck Tick. The guy sounded like David Sylvian of JAPAN, who sang the ED song on Monster. Nightwalker was one of the few shows with Maaya Sakamoto in a major role where she didn't also sing the theme song, I think... |

Oh yeah! I forgot about Fruit's Basket. I like both the OP and ED for that one. The OP kinda makes me tear up too, heh. Plus, every time I hear it, I end up humming it for days afterwards. |

| There are a bunch of good ones already mentioned that I like a lot - Bebop, Haibane Renmei, CCS #1 OP (although I like all 3 of them, I think the first one got in my head the worst), Hellsing. I have a special little place in my heart for the OP for Sailor Stars. I actually like a lot of OPs. Maybe its just because I get excited because I'm going to watch some anime! Other OPs I remember liking quite a bit - Evagelion, Outlaw Star, Record of Lodoss War TV, Noir, .hack, Saiyuki (#1 and 2), Escaflowne, Utena. |
