What a time this is. I learned about this first AC/DC album in eight years from a very positive review in Time magazine!?
And they do not lie. It ain't Shakespeare but it be the pure rock, from the wrong side of the tracks, down and dirty.
I forget what sitcom is, but a young person remarked, "Could you explain human sex to an alien race with a straight face?". AC/DC is a bit like that. It would be hard to explain to an alien how a band who sings so much about crime and mayham is sooooo fracking GOOOD!. It's a visceral thing.
Three songs stand out for me. One is rather uncharacteristic, all most introspective (AC/DC??? INTROSPECTIVE?), that is "Rock'n'Roll Dream". A different tone for the band.
The title song is exactly what you expect. Only sooo much MORE. CRANK IT UP TO 11!
And then there is "War Machine". A fine song in the AC/DC tradition but still....I have this unescapable feeling that someone, somewhere, is going to play this song while that are actually killing someone. Like in a tank or flying a Global Hawk drone with the Hellfire missiles. I know if that was the band's intention - I mean this has been a long fracking war and they cannot ignore it. And it is out of their control. Too many of the troops have seen "Apocalypse Now" and the helicopter the attack with Wagner playing. Still the tradition of music in warfare is as ole as the fife and drum. Hell, as old as the drum - the first of all the human musical instruments.
But that still troubles me. But it is a great song and I cannot stop playing it. And crying for the insanity of this gawddamn unnecessary war.
But I love this album. I noticed all of their Texas shows are sold out (including ones in Jan of next year). Yet tickets are still available in L.A.
WHAT THE HELL IS MATTER WITH YOU PEOPLE IN LA-LA LAND?
I have witnessed AC/DC live. GO!
I cannot wait for the concert DVD. |

Well now let's be fair. Like 80% of L.A. residents are from somewhere else. Blame those places for sending us their non AC/DC lovin leftovers ^_^
I'm half tempted to go, but I hate going to concerts alone. I'm still cranky over missing Devo/Billy Idol/Twisted Sister/Blondie/Psychadelic Furs last month. REALLY cranky. That might have been the keenest concert lineup I could have ever attended but was anybody else interested? NOOOOOOOOOOO. |
