So now all the hubbub is over and the pretty people all have their self-affirming gold statues, what's next? Summer Blockbusters, that's what! I know, I know, I'm skipping right over spring... well farbeit from me to deny anyone their right to chit a little chat about what's coming up in the world of cinema! So let's just make it a 2004 list of films that look really freakin' cool.

So what upcoming films are you looking forward to?

Spider-Man 2 anyone?

How about Troy?

Looking over what I wrote in December (sooo long ago) here, I'm waiting for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the Lemony Snicket/A Series of Unfortunate Events movie, and maybe the Asterix and Obelix movies and The Incredibles.

I've decided a while back that I only want to watch fun movies.

Kill Bill vol. 2 will be out in April! I can't wait! That will be TONS o' fun! And ColonelKong reminded me that I wanna see the Ladykiller, and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow!

I'm opposed to re-makes, but giving George Romero a large budget for a re-make of "Dawn of the Dead" might be pretty fun. "Day of the Dead" wasn't a very good movie, but even on the limited budget, it was so cool how the zombie ripped the military men apart at the end, like it was nothing!

It looks to be stylized a little like "28 days later" from the Internet trailer I saw, but considering that movie was essentially a remake of "Day of the Dead," I think George Romero's within his rights.

Y'know, over winter break I finally read the Lemony Snicket books -- or at least, the first nine (whew). Now that I have (and I did enjoy them), I wonder about the film version. Are they condensing down several of the books' storylines into one film, a few of the best perhaps? And as much as I love the books, some of the plot elements are a mite, shallwesay, repitive or predictable. I wonder how they'll handle that.

And I'm also looking forward to the new Harry Potter, for three reasons: No Chris Columbus, but Cuaron instead; it was my favorite of the books; and great cast.

Sort of looking forward to Spider-Man 2 (Michael Chabon wrote the screenplay!) and King Arthur (maybe), curious and hopeful about I, Robot, and my fingers are crossed for Van Helsing, which could be fun. Or it could be Underworld.

What about Around the World in 80 Days remake? Quality or Crap?

I'm not sure I'm reading your comments correctly, but I wanted to point out that George Romero has nothing to do with the remake of Dawn of the Dead.

The real sad part of this story is that Romero is interested in making another zombie movie, but can't get the funding for it.

Despite all this, I have read some good reviews of the new Dawn of the Dead and it stars Sarah Polley. So, it has got me interested. Who knows, with the success of 28 Days Later and potential success of Dead, maybe this will help to bring some money George's way.

I'm not sure when the US release date is (I think some time this year), but I remembered that I'm looking forward to Jean-Pierre Jeunet's A Very Long Engagement. I mentioned Kill Bill Part 2 (which I would've seen by now if the original release date of Feb 20 had held), Hellboy, The Ladykillers, Troy, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and The Aviator on the Oscar 2004 thread, what else is there that I'm looking forward to this year? Oh yeah, there's also Ghost In the Shell 2: Innocence, Dario Argento's Il Cartaio/The Carplayer (it's out in Italy right now, I don't think a US release has been announced yet), Tony Scott's Man on Fire, Michael Mann's Collateral, and probably a few others that I'm forgetting.

[overheard at the theaters]***Dude! I am SO stoked to see Walking Tall! The Rock can do no wrong!***

Noooooooooo! Must... find... razor...

How's about that Secret Window flick with Johnny Depp? The previews don't say anything, but it looks exactly like a Stephen King short story I read ten years ago. It was a mediocre story, but it could be a great film!

and the new M. Night Shamalyan movie? That looks good. Except it's probably the same sorta film as his others. I'd really like to see him go another direction for once.

Ah. I just read the thread IronS was referring to.

Great.

Now everyone will think I'm a usurper! :)

But it did remind me of a number of films I'd forgotten about, like The Life Aquatic. and I'm looking forward (with much trepidation) to Alien Vs. Predator. Dogville should be awesome too. And as previously mentioned, Hellboy looks spankin' awesome.

There's a fine article about HELLBOY in the new issue of Premiere Magazine. The fact that Guillermo Del Toro directed it is enough to pique my interest, but it also sounds interesting. But as is the case with any film, no matter what genre... what it really comes down to is the script.

And, oh yes, add my name to the (no longer) Secret Spongebob Fanclub -- quietly looking forward to that one as well. Feature-length could be stretching it a bit... but I bet it'll be amusing. Patrick, possibly the dumbest character on TV, with the possible exception of the star of the state of the union address, but he cracks me up no end.

From the trailers it is basically looking like The League of Extrodinary Gentlemen, with mutant powers.

true. movies that have a comic book vibe to them (whether or not they were actually based on comic book characters) generally work for me. i guess hellboy is one that actually was a comic book before it was a movie, but i'm not at all familiar with the character or storyline.

haven't seen LXG... despite the fact that it probably fits the criteria in my first paragraph, it hasn't piqued my interest enough for me to check it out yet.

I saw the trailer for "I, Robot" and it looks a bit like a Wil Smith comedy with kung-fu robots.

Well, I, Robot is directed by Alex Proyas, so there could be hope. Maybe the trailer is misleading?
