Oh God:
-Speilberg (those here who know me know why)
-"All Asians look a like so we'll cast anyone yellow."
-Just so long as it has kung fu, it'll be alright.*sigh*
-Engrish (the new Japanese)

I'm all France on this one.

---Yes, okay, I'll give a point or two for 'Empire of the Sun.' Leave me alone.
---Get it? France? Irony. Per definition. Never mind.*sigh x2*

It?s odd that all of the principal women's roles went to Zhang Ziyi, Michelle Yeoh and Gong Li, lovely to look at and wonderful actresses, but they?re not Japanese, though Ken Watanabe somehow managed to land a part. Speilberg will not direct, that honor will be going to Rob Marshall so I guess it will be a musical comedy with lots of dance numbers.

This is the craziest movie proposal I've ever heard. Those who've had the displeasure of reading the novel know it's a corny historical romance, not a musical or Chinese action movie. They should have gotten the chick from "Amelie" while they were at it, she's real cute.

I don't get Li Gong. She does these pretentious-ass PRC Chinese movies (that I must admit I don't really "get"), and then she totally slums it for her HK and American movies.

Maybe this is a backhanded comment on Japan's use of foreign "comfort women" during the militarist years, or the more modern use of foreign sex workers in Japan and sex tours overseas.

Maybe it's just an exotic remake of "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas"....

Second greatest lesson of life in a movie:
Steve Martin: "Pa...what did you want to talk about?"
Father: "Son...let me tell you something." Pulls out a tin of shoe shine. " shinola."
Martin: "Shinola."
Father: "That there is shit."
Martin: "Shit."
Father: Points to shinola, "shinola", points to cow dung, "Shit." Repeats.
Martin: Hesitantly, " Shinola....shit. SHINOLA! SHIT!"
Father: "Very good, son."

A propos of the topic of this thread: I know shit when I step in it. Pardon my language.
