Gee. I didn't think that my defense of food would squelch any participation of this topic.

Anyway, I'm hoping to watch the Phantom this weekend. It looks like one of those movies that would play better on the big screen.

I'm probably in the minority, but I've never gone to see any of the stage productions. It was at the height of its popularity when I was still an economically-challenged college student subsisting on things like ramen and ... tofu.

Yeah. It's probly better on the silver screne. Well, it seems like no else has seen it yet, but when you do, talk again.

Considering I hated Chicago, and I have a growing distaste for Andrew Lloyd Webber, it might just take an act of God to get me out to see this one. But that's not to say I don't like musicals. Or drama.

You're looking at it the wrong way. Think of it like this: There's a deformed freak living beneath the opera house. Sometimes, he comes to the surface and kidnaps a young maiden... does he eat her? I don't know! But you'll never know unless you go see!

Loved it. :) They got everything I loved about the stage play exactly right (I was mildly afraid that Joel would "tinker" with the Masquerade sequence) and although they moved some events around a bit, it almost worked better.

I hated the faked newsreel-ish sequences of old Raoul though....they kept interfering with the mood.

Also, I thought it mildly odd and interesting that they dubbed Minnie Driver with someone else, then had her sing the song over the end credits. Maybe they wanted someone who sang worse?

Hey, it's just a remake of this much older film, right? Wait! He's wearing the same mask/helmet Griffiths wore in Berserk!

That black and white stuff worked well in the very beginnin with the chandalier and well at hte end, but no where inbetween. I like that the phantom was a stalker in the end. I th ought she should have an affair with him. It would go with teh "dark fantasy". Maybe that they didn't made it a little sadder. I dunno...

I saw it. I guess I don't really like musicals that much. I particularly thought that the singing by the guy playing the Phantom was horrible.

Raul was hot! Especially in the Mascarade scene- cute boys in uniform and his hair all pulled back, *drools*. Come on, he's a Viscount. I want a Viscount! The Phantom was a creepy psycho. I don't know, maybe it was the way the film was done, but I didn't feel sorry for him at all. I actually felt the most sorry for Raul, since he seemed like a really nice guy and was in love with such a ho-dog. I mean, jeez, let's go sucking face with the psycho while my hot, sweet fiance looks on. What a b-i-atch!

What's this I hear of eating young maidens? Where is NLee to comment? This sounds like a hentai anime, no?

It all depends on whether the guy is using his tongue or his teeth!

I guess pity's in teh eyes of the beholder. He does look o with his hair back, but guys and straghteners don't mix. I sort of thought that about hre too. She's supposed to be so innocent, but she went around in that night gown with the slit.

Also when shs sings, she looks like she's panting
