This is one of those sentences that is never true, no matter what the context.

Update: Currently 8094 members online!

Yet the boards are oh so quiet! It is the fault of the wang... er, the summer. Everyone must be out enjoying themselves.

So, why aren't you enjoying the "wang"...er, summer? Like everyone else?

BTW, where's that members counter, on the main page?

Scratch this question, I found it. (duh!)

The real question is, if there's that many people currently online, why are none of them posting to the boards? Over the weekend, the top 20 active threads consisted of only 16 threads, most of which only had one or two recent posts in them.

1389 some people now. Where'd everybody go so suddenly?
(p.s. I love your icon, Markhl. It's great to see a pyro (even if I am just projecting my psychosis))

That's a good question Sinny, I just logged on now, and it's like in the 8000's. It's pretty safe to say that most of the GCitizens are here just for the movies and not much else. (Regardless of their reasons for being here.) I wonder, if you go on the "member lists" and look up "all", would it actually list all 8000 (or more GCers)? ....hmmmm.

The thing is, from what I can tell I dont think there are 8000 GCers total, I think the number is more around 3000-4000 from my guesstimates

But then I can't say for any certainty whatsoever, it was just from searching the member lists with no query and counting the names per page and the total number of pages, and that includes the people no longer using GC.

What "member lists" are you talking about? The usual one on the main page? That one has nothing to do with the number of people signed up with greencine.

I think they mean the member profiles. Just for fun I searched for "all", and got all members, starting with ACatterall and ending with ZCallahan. That's a total of 61 members. I sense that this may not be an accurate figure. Maybe some GC staff person can give us a ballpark estimate on just how big GC is.

It hits me now that I'm "online" (that is, I don't have to log in when I visit) at two or three locations; at work, at home, and (maybe) at one other computer. All three are continuously connected to the internet, so if they're all on, will GC's cookies let GC sense my "online" status at all three locations? Can they see my IP address? Are they sending me pornography spam? Is the FBI on its way already? AAAAAHHH!!! !!!
Paranoia aside, does it work that way? 'cuz if it does, I don't want those evil hackers giving me evil cookies just so they can play santa and know when I'm awake (so that they can turn my beautiful PC into an evil internet zombie!!). I'd have to take better care of my cookies, you know?

I entered "a" and got 3466 members whose usernames have the letter a in it.

I only got 3343 when I searched for "e".

EATOIN SHRDLU!

"E" is supposed to be the most common letter in the English language, followed by "a," then "t," then "o," and so on.

I think they probably go by the username logon, so if you are logged in at multiple locations you only count once.

So, when JRoss entered "all", he only accounted for 61 users. However, when IronS picked a particular letter (a), it gave her over 3000 users. Is GC hiding something, or do they just have a really bad (user) search program?

Conspiracy?!......
