So does that mean the porn industry work stoppage will negatively affect Greencine? I guess they will just have to beef up their Hentai titles?

I hope your right. That way everyone will be happy.

There are 1000's of gay & straight porn titles currently available so I doubt that GC will ever scratch the surface in there very small inventory. I'm for anything that will make more money so they can buy more copies of movies.

The work stopage only affects new productions in California and does not affect any movie being produced outside of the State or the Country. All the AIDS scare in the industry is going to do is move more and more productions to other Countries where labor is cheap and out-of-work boys are plentiful. I read somewhere that most people will abandon their common sense if they are hungry enough. Even Russia is getting into the gay porn industry since their unemployment is sky high.

When there is actual dialog will it be dubbed or subbed? You would think that being subbed would take away from the visual effect, however with so many language "purists" out there might be an uproar if they dubbed it.

Subtitled are getting common and since there is really very little dialog in porn movies beyond "oh put your mighty man-c**k into me" or other really stupid dialog, subtitles make little difference. I own many tapes from Eastern Europe and they speak english fluently. The only tapes I own that are strictly in another language are made in France. Those actors speak only French. It's really not hard to follow the "story??????" in a porn fim.

Most american made tapes are usually dubbed with a sound track and then they add a really sad disco music track on top of the dubbed track so you can't tell it's all been dubbed. I guess American porn actors are too stupid to be allowed to speak.

What? Story? I was not aware that an actual story was involved in any porno.

Damn!!! I thought the disco track was what made most of these movies enjoyable. Who would want to watch otherwise?

You know the pron thing is what really brought me here... I get all these cool horror movies AND PORN?!?!?! All for one low price. If they played up the adult movie retal angle a bit more... you will be flooded with new customers!

> I appreciate what you're saying but the sad truth is that if Greencine thinks they are going to carry "every" DVD and "every" TV show they are kidding themselves. I would hate to see them reach a point where they are spread so thin that they are not doing anything well.

Personally, I wish GC would stop bothering with getting new anime, and work on beefing up their Bollywood selection.

Debbie Does Dallas had its plot adapted for a (non-pornographic) Off Broadway play.

Actually some of the porn videos are coming out with actual stories and plots. A lot of the videos coming from Eastern Europe have plots. As for the Disco track, the producers who still use it are sadly out of touch with what folks want. They are still under the impression that folks will take what is given to them and shut up about it. For myself, I will not purchase any video that has a music track. I'll stick to actual spoken words.

I think tv series are a great part of the catalog, especially some of the more obscure ones...

It's easy for me to tell someone across the country, "hey, have you seen Firefly before? Go add it to your rental list." It's an easy way to get someone hooked on a series, and if they don't like it, they haven't committed to a box of something unwanted. Also, while I have gone ahead and bought this particular series due to its good price point, there are longer series that I just can't afford to collect, and wouldn't really watch more than a couple times by myself, anyway. Not to mention that there are a few series that I have only a mild interest in, but might want to see one or two particular episodes of.

I'd vote for more tv shows. Especially more shows originally broadcast on PBS, as well as, of course, most British comedies.

I say there are entirely too many anime, Bollywood and TV DVDs and not enough Czech movies.

Although I've never seen any pron movies or prawn movies either, for that matter, I'm all for more Czech movies and come to think of it, Tagalog seems to be lagging behind as well.

Jak se mash, kokot! Czechs don't have so much a cinema.

I was reading about Filipino cinema the other week. Supposedly the mainstream cinema got raunchier and raunchier, until by the mid 70's it was basically porn. The country is pretty conservative, and there were huge riots during which the studios got destroyed. Now they don't have Filipino cinema anymore.

The moral is:

Uhmm...

NPR's morning edition had a story today about a Filipino film star that's running for president over there:

"Fernando Poe Jr., a major action-film star in the Philippines, is running for president there against incumbent Gloria Macapagal Arroyo."

He's apparently a sort of Filipino Arnold Schwarzenegger, starring in movies where his character triumphs against unbelievable odds.

How embarassing, I had read the same article on Fernando Poe, a couple days ago! Well, looked up the history a little bit - but it says the Marcos government heavily censored films, mainly for political content (and insisted that movies start using scripts, as well). No rioting mentioned, but it's a short essay...

I'm always down to try a new cinema - but it looks like Greencine's Tagalog selection is art-house and Filipino-American only. The mention of Filipino ninjas, former Miss Universes with gratuitous shower scenes, and rich people who start slapping each other with little provocation, makes it sound lots of fun!

Probably the DVDs aren't easily available though, and it's probably with good reason...

Err...I should have said Farnando Poe Jr., and it was a different article I saw, in the New York Times or something. I really should do some error-checking before hitting post...

Good news! We'll be getting more Pornographic Czech Anime TV series discs in soon! Stay tuned...

(Actually, we are planning on ordering a bunch more Bollywood titles, soon, so do stay tuned on that. We have some big fans here on staff, and that section will get beefed up soon.)

Ay-yah!

RBrunette, it should make you happy that GC gets TV shows to fill up other peoples queues so you can get the movies you want faster while other people are busy watching and waiting for Smallville or Buffy to arrive.

Although it would bring me much pleasure if GC could double up on the number of copies they have of certain popular and hard to find titles.
