I prefer the editor top ten list to the recommended features. The recommended features on NF is worthless. I don't know to what extent GC's differ, but I've always like the serendipety follow links and lists ability to browse GC which is bizaarly difficult on NF.

They take it away when you play with it too much. It'll come back, when you're good.

| I'd like to see a link to the recommendations list added to the box that's on the side of every page, so I don't have to keep going back to the main GC page when I want to see if/how it's changed. |

| i think it's nifty. i just wish individual catalog pages had links to primers or articles or off-site stuff that discusses those movies, if there are any, so that the recommendations lead to more info if the person's curious. |

Actually, I think he started going blind. I'm told that's another thing that can happen when you play with something too much.

| I think this thing needs to handle series better. The first recommendation it gave was Evangelion Collection 0:3. Ok, I thought this was a good series, so I give it a 9. Refresh... It says "Maybe you would like Evangelion Collection 0:8!" Hmmm.. still seen it. Let's try "not interested." Refresh... "I've got the perfect recommendation! Evangelion Collection 0:4!" *sigh* |

| hmm we're at a standoff. i don't know how to rate the flicks i saw a while ago and it doesn't want to recommend other movies until i've rated what it's offering now. |

Hey, this "new" feature is almost EXACTLY what I recommended back in October last year! Thanks GreenCine! You're always so good at adopting good suggestions, even if it takes half a year!
This is the kind of feature where, at the beginning, you have to really work hard and get your ratings registered before it becomes truly useful. I just spent a half-hour rating titles that it was suggesting to me before I finally refreshed to a page where I've actually already seen less than half of the films on the list. It's kinda pain in the butt if you have a long history of seeing GreenCine type titles from before GC even existed, but hey, that's why I'm here! Anyway, if I keep doing this, I think it will be useful in the long run.
The AI I used to post ratings on that I mentioned in the above link recommended Azumanga Daioh as its number 1 suggestion for me, and so far AD has been a riot (I've seen the first 2 volumes). It also recommended Fruits Basket very highly, and it was absolutely right about that series. It probably would have recommended Haibane Renmei to me as well, if the AI hadn't become defunct.
One thing that the defunct AI did that the GC feature didn't was to bundle all series titles as one. I mean, fundamentally, if I give Volume 1 of Mahoromatic a 10 rating, it only follows that I would also like Volumes 2 and 3. The first time I looked a a whole page of recommendations, the page was filled with later volumes of a series where I gave a high rating to Vol. 1. I wish that the AI engine running this feature was smart enough to recognize that, but I guess it's not built in...
Anyway, from what I've seen so far I would encourage other "power users" here to get to work and put in their ratings. I think if I actually manage to rank every single title that GreenCine has that I've ever seen, this feature would really prove useful. It's really only as good as the effort you put in to give the AI an idea of what you've liked in the past. If you take it seriously, it should be more accurate and impartial compared to going by member reviews and ratings! |

Just click "not interested" for those. They'll be taken out of circulation without affecting the overall outcome (I think). Or rent and watch them again so you'll have a better feeling about how to rate them. It'll be useful if the AI could generate a list of titles that you rated "not interested" so you could review or re-rate them in the future...
I'm assuming the AI is looking at your queue and taking those titles out of circulation as well, in terms of what it's recommending? |

That's not necessarily true. Each volume is its own. Every series I watch I give individual ratings for each discs, because some are better than others. I do however agree that the series should be linked so that when I check "not interested" on one, all the others stop appearing. I think I've seen Dragon Ball Z and Chobits come up 15 times. grrr. |

i think "n/i" will skew future results. ugh i don't want to watch anything again if i don't have to. i'll never get through the rest of them if i start going for casual reevaluation. i really do just want to keep making headway.

yeah, maybe cycle them out for a few months, or until you've rented a certain number of similar titles.
> I'm assuming the AI is looking at your queue and taking those titles out of circulation as well, in terms of what it's recommending?
appears to be. nothing i've queued has shown up.
(the thing was, before i ever had a queue here, i had a queue of my own which i'd been working on for 4 years, at a faster pace. but my ranking scheme was much less detailed, and i think, of those probably 500+ flicks, all famous and easy "hey you oughta see this" kinds of stuff, i saw them in a state of blissful film ignorance, so while i trust some feelings about them, i don't really feel like i can say, yeah, that was good, that was bad. even now i feel uncomfortable using my thumb on a movie, except to say, there's a lot of meat to this one, or something like that.) |

| i saw more than 500. the 500 are the earliest, high "quality" films, an america-centric canon, and i can't really assess them well. i don't feel obliged to fix that, either. |

OK, me and SG have the same problem! This is what they call a "minor bug": I can't get my precious recomendations back! Why oh why me?!? I just clicked to see the "editor's top list" or whatever, and then when I click to go back, it doesn't let me! Waaaahahaha! :-( |

also, if you go to your Improve Recommendations page, you can view a list of all your "not interested" titles and rate them at your leisure.

thanks for that link. It's official (for now): I've either rented or rated (or N.I.ed) all of my recomendations! there's no more now! That's fine, because it'll take a while to get through all the stuff I stuck in my queue, and by then I'll have rated enough to get - yay! - more recomendations! |
