Holy mackerel, these threads do go on forever, don't they? Well, anyway, I can't read the whole thing, but I thought it was interesting that all but one of my own favorites were not mentioned within the first two or three pages. It's gratuitous but what the hell?

Paranoia Agent
Boogiepop Phantom
His and Her Circumstances
Haibane Renmei
Texhnolyze
Neon Genesis Evangelion (however with many reservations)
FLCL
Elfen Lied
Gantz
Cromartie High
Genshiken
Azumanga Daioh
Gunslinger Girl

Funny, in other types of movies/TV shows/etc. my taste seems fairly mainstream but in anime I am way off the map.

By the way, hello again, Greencine. Nice to be back.

Hey there! Nice to see you again!

Yeah? You should add Kemonozume or Kaiba for some really wacky anime.... Kemonozume is actually one of my recent favorites. Kaiba was a bit too slow paced for me, sort of like Yellow Submarine on 'ludes.

Oh, and there was Shigurui. Don't watch that or people will think you're some kinda freak.

Hey, Kemonozume looks like a lot of fun. Kaiba looks intriguing and kind of psychedelic. Shigurui looks....gory and depressing and grim. Right up my alley! Thanks Hamano!

I take it Death Note has been talked "to death" around here already. Just caught the first episode and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised so far. Nicely done, not obvious or silly or pointless so far.

oh dont you worry death note gets plenty stupid later on and it doesn't even take that long really. But dont let that scare you away plenty of people love that show for some odd reason.

Its like the Da Vinci code and the Apple, it puts on a clever intelligent facade but fails so hard.

Honestly if anyone read the Da Vinci code and didn't realize it was apple right away that is sad

That's too bad. It certainly wouldn't be the first time. Still, I'll give it a few more episodes at least. My quirky taste might find something to like.

I thought Death Note had really good voice acting and a decent story. The layering of random rules and the one-upsmanship between the characters gave the show some momentum to keep viewers fixed. Not GREAT like Kemonozume, but it's easy to like and watch.

Oh, and you might have been away long enough to have missed Seirei no Moribito or just Moribito or The Guardian of the Sacred Spirit or something like that. Excellent voice acting and story, beautiful Ghibli-level artwork. Based on a novel that just came out in English, but I think the anime, which fleshes out the novel quite a bit, was even better.
