troublemaker	post #1  on January 19, 2010 - 3:38 PM PST   Let's see.. aside from Avatar, what do we have to choose from? Book of Eli? Lovely Bones? Extraordinary Measures starring Harrison "I ALREADY WORK AROUND THE CLOCK!" Ford. Okay, admittedly not the greatest start to the year, but I do have a glimmer of hope with Wolfman. At the very least, we have the Lost premiere in a few weeks time. Here's a thread for us to chronicle our 2010 movie-viewing experiences.

Movies I'm not sure about: "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," "Shutter Island," Ridley Scott's "Robin Hood" "Jonah Hex" and "Legion." There will be some really questionable movies this year, too, like "Marmaduke," the remake of "Death at a Funeral," "Footloose," "The A-Team," "Clash of the Titans," "The Karate Kid," "MacGruber," and "Red Dawn."

Might have to go see that one in the same spirit as "Snakes on a Plane". Though I'm not a big action movie fan, it's hard to resist the pull of Wolfman, Robert Rodriguez's Predators, Stallone's Expendables and A-Team.
IronS	post #7  on March 8, 2010 - 3:54 PM PST   "Alice in Wonderland" was way more fun than I thought it'd be. Forget Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter was the best. Of course, the voice over actors were great; Stephen Fry for the Cheshire Cat and Alan Rickman for the Blue Catepillar were especially delicious. The only drawback to the film was that the 3D glasses gave me a headache.

Something about capturing that era in music, and girl rock, and Kristen Stewart wearing the attire, it all adds up for me. ;-) What about GREEN ZONE? Anyone gonna see that? Also: A PROPHET!

IronS	post #10  on March 21, 2010 - 12:17 AM PDT   I managed to miss the Percy Jackson movie even though it has Pierce Brosnan in it as Chiron. The next kids-book-turned-movie is "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" which I'm even less inclined (although I like both series of books). Later, there's "How to Train Your Dragon" which is not even close to the books... What's the verdict on "Clash of the Titans"? I like the original, but I'm open to this remake, as of now anyway (even though Liam Neeson, as good as he is, is no Olivier).

Anyone somewhat excited to see Kick-Ass? Trailers have been somewhat "meh" but I remember hearing good word of mouth on this one and I've been curious.
Cinenaut	post #12  on April 15, 2010 - 8:27 AM PDT   Somebody told me "Clash of the Titans" was boring, and that the 3D sucked (one of the trailers before the movie had better 3D, apparently). I do want to see "Kick Ass." Soon there will be a Greencine list's worth of movies about ordinary people trying to be superheroes. I can't keep track of them all. I was getting "Defendor," confused with "Special." I haven't seen any of them yet.

The monsters are pretty good effects-wise. I found the flow of the story to be really uneven, and yes, the 3-D is a waste of your ticket money. I can't keep track of them all. I liked Special quite a lot and I had hated the main actor/comedian who starred in it before I saw this. He kind of suits the role though. I'd check it out!
weezy	post #14  on April 21, 2010 - 10:36 AM PDT   Kick-Ass was really fun, and pretty awesomely violent, too. Nic Cage was really great in it, as was the actress who played Hit Girl. The movie was a little overly dramatic at times, but, was a good, fun viewing altogether. Recommended! Next on my must-see list in theaters right now is the Banksy flick, Exit Through the Gift Shop.
Cinenaut	post #15  on April 22, 2010 - 9:47 AM PDT   I didn't go see "Kick Ass," but I finally caught "A Town Called Panic," and it had me laughing the whole way. The ending is a bit weak, but the insane hilarity that comes before more than makes up for it.

Not sure how much of a must-see theater experience this film is, but it'll make for an entertaining afternoon rental when it comes out on DVD. Though I will say the theater I was in had a nice group of nerds in it who really dug the film. I could see this flick being right up the alley of some hardcore comic-book fans. And wow, can I say how surprised I am in this Nic Cage resurgence? I'm not sure if that's the most apropo of word choice but I suddenly find myself having fun with him in films like Bad Lieutenant and Kick-Ass, than making fun of him.
IronS	post #17  on April 26, 2010 - 10:56 PM PDT   Went to see "How to Train Your Dragon" in 3D. Pretty fun even though it's nothing like the book. Teen geek boy proves himself to his father (Stoick the Vast) and his hot girl/sidekick (Astrid). In the books, of course, Hiccup is only 11 and Camicazi is no Astrid. Plus, the most of the dragons in the books are way too small to be ridden. Still, there were quite a few laughs. The McDonald Happy Meal toys are fun though.

I watched to see Alice in Wonderland, After.Life (I love Liam Neeson and Ricci), The Runaways and probably a few others, but never found the time to go. :( I'm debating going to see Nightmare on Elm Street. If it turns out to be torture-porn, then I'll be infuriated. Who else is going to go see the reboot? It *does* have Jackie Earl Hayley. Maybe it won't be too terrible, eh? I kind of feel like I have an obligation to go see it, given that I've been watching Freddy terrorize teenagers since I was three or four.

Anyway, read this and decided that, no, I don't need to see the remake. Never been much of a fan of Michael Bay anyway. The line that sealed it: "If Englund's mock-erudite Freddy was arguably too delighted with himself all the time, Haley's Freddy is no fun at all, a depressed, sadistic and sour little bastard." Screw that. I loved old Freddy's vicious charm. :(
