Some may have missed this in another thread, so I wanted to start a post specifically about it. This answer was given by Gradalis:

(From the other thread)
"2) Lockable Queue Slots
This will reveal itself in roughly the next two-weeks. The locking queue was always the first step in the line-item lock."

Thank you!! As an anime fan (and intermittent X-files season watcher), thank you VERY VERY much! I am glad to see this confirmed as coming soon. Nothing is worse than getting a disk out of order and having to mail it back, or wait for the earlier disk to arrive (especially with 3-4 day ship times to Michigan).

PS - Shipping times have been very stable at about 3 days lately. No 5-6 day waits lately. Good to see!

You're absolutely welcome. Only trouble is that I was early in my estimate. I was recently informed that the line-item locking queue will debut 15-September.

Gulp gulp gulp.

Y'all might not be aware of this but greenmonkey, maybe unintentional, is a reference to an awesome Japanese horror film.

aww man... after I had painstakingly figured out a "system"... well, it wasn't foolproof anyway so it sounds like it will be a good improvement. One more thing for the queue monkey to think about - hope the processor (oops I mean the brain) doesn't melt from the added stress. I do hope that this wasn't just for the sake of the anime fans.. heh heh just who are these demanding people anyway? :)

Is the shipping monkey green?

My "system" consisted of putting my series on opposite ends of the queue from each other (ie Berserk #4 at #1 and Berserk #5 at like #20. Glad to see this coming finally. :)

It will be interesting to see how they manage this. As someone said before, having a check box next to a title that will "lock this title to the previous title in the queue" seems to be the easiest and least confusing way to do it.

On a side note, my shipping times have stabilized lately, as well. 3 days both ways.

Yep, I have a very similar system as GM but there was this one time (... in band camp... ) that miraculously the first 27 DVDs were unavailable and #28 got shipped. Celia helped me with that of course but I'm still amazed what the probability of that happening again may be (whatever the status of the first 27 may be). I also put some fillers (some of the non-anime variety - hey.. I'm evolving a bit) so that I'm not dizzy watching like 10 series at once. Oh well, all that work and figurin' may be gone... Well, regardless, I'll wait for some feedback from the "testers" before getting too excited. I can't seem to recall what exactly the lockable queue slot idea entailed anyway (i.e. if that holds up any other titles from being shipped or not in that slot place)..

Regarding the locking to the previous item, it makes sense as much as the other suggestions. Not sure if that makes the algorithm more difficult or something.. then again, when wouldn't you want to not lock to the previous item? Perhaps the GC Queue monkey would develop some AI characteristics eventually? It will guess what you want and automatically ship it to you to arrive the moment you think it... (as long as it doesn't have the logic program of that Walmart thing someone else mentioned, it may be interesting)

To me, "locking to previous item" is the easiest and most elegent way to implement multiple linked lists. Imagine this: just use the "locked/unlocked" option we have right now to link everything together (that is, each item is locked to the previous item), then go in and break the list into several pieces according to anime series. What do you have now? Multiple locked list. Its so trivial that somebody probably already has it patented.

that's not a bad way to do it, very flexible. the system would need to unlock the second item of a block when the top item was sent out. also there would have to be some resort protections, or you could behead your group by accidentally putting a different title right in front of the first dependent title, or right in the middle, etc.

an unrelated line item lock, this item only after the previous locked item, means less coding but clogs the pipe.

i still like the idea of associating titles in a series with each other, on the server side, the best, meaning, parts of a series ship to you in the order they appear in your queue, automagically. that combined with an unrelated line item lock would take the least brainpower by the user to operate.

... some re-sort protections...

with that automagic series lock thing, it'd be nice wouldn't it, if there was a sign in the queue that a title was related to others, and maybe, where they were in the queue? like, you could roll over the title and info would appear to summarize the series's presence and order in your queue. dunno.

Right now, I don't put, say, The Devil Lady Vol. 4 on my queue at all until the day The Devil Lady Vol. 3 ships. As soon as I get an e-mail that says item A shipped, I log on and put item B on the queue.

I think it makes sense to put some kind of ordinal code on all the discs belonging to one series (it's not just anime, but a lot of TV shows like Buffy, 24 and Friends as well) so that they ship in order, regardless of what else is on the queue. Or how about an ability to stick a locked subqueue into your main queue, which isn't locked?

This is precisely what the "line-item" queue-lock will do, thankfully.

When you want the first DVD from a series to be first in your queue, but if GreenCine receives multiple DVDs on the same day there are other DVDs you'd prefer to get than the second DVD from that series. So you want the first DVD to be first in your queue, then other DVDs, then later on the second DVD, locked to the first.

This may be rare enough that it's not worth the extra complexity needed to address it.

You know, actually, I've decided I DONT want lockable slots, just like some people on another thread DONT want their reviews published. If I find out that individual slots have been locked to my anime series, I will sue GC. And greenmonkey for suggesting the idea. And my mom for raising me to be such a crotchety old *CENSORED* kinda guy.

Why, lockable slots fly in the face of nature! Its unnatural! Why, its like going to a party and being able to have a choice of TWO party hats when by rights there really is only one.

But once I'm on my medication, I do sorta, a little bit, feel eager to see the new lockable slots. But don't quote me on that. And don't publish this, it might end up in print somewhere and I might get screwed of royalties or the Nobel Prize or something.

Hee hee.

We figured as much.

Say, who's that in your character icon? The face looks familiar...but I'm blanking.
