More fun with GC generic icons. You might not get this one if you're a young'un. See this article for information.

I had a moment of icon identity confusion. My first thought was, "Who's the girl with Larry King?"

As a tribute to the upcoming movie Godzilla: Final Wars, I was thinking of creating an avatar gallery of our favorite monster and his opponents (perhaps including Charles Barkley).

See this article about the planned retirement of Godzilla. There are links to the official movie site to the right.

Yah, some, if not all, of the GC icons are representations of real movie personalities.... I wonder if they commissioned a real artist to draw them, or if a staffer with some art skills came up with them. I think they made them not 100% identifiable on purpose to avoid lawsuits, but some of them are really obvious, like the Austin Powers one and Godzilla. What's with the one scooter has, a cross between O.J. and the Terminator?

Hmmm.... Cher "retired" too. Saying "I retire" doesn't mean "good bye" nowadays...

Maybe we could include Cher in the monster gallery! ^_^

Here's one for Mothra, my personal favorite, from a bigger picture I found on a Japanese site credited to artist K4.

Unfortunately.

Actually, in the case of Hayao Miyazaki, I'm certainly glad "retirement" is open to interpretation.

hmm, still no new icon!

Must have been to big, huh? It was only 20 kb, more or less.

Well, I've got a working copy I made about half way through the last one anyway, and it's smaller. About 10, I think. It has less animation, but that's not such a bad thing. I'll tweak it a bit and use it I guess.

Maybe they haven't had a new "build" since you sent it in... Send e-mail to support and ask them to look into it....

I'd like to take this opportunity to compliment Hamano on another great icon. I think it's the best yet; is it just me, or is Hamano getting really good at this "icon" thing?

He really is! That's beautiful.

Springtime for Totoros! (Er, *not* sung to the tune of a Mel Brooks song)

How about Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring or Vivaldi's Spring from The Four Seasons for hamano's beautiful new icon? Or that perennial favorite, Beethoven's Ode to Joy?

The latest icon of hamano reminds me of the opening scene of Masquerade. But instead of a mysterous beauty leaning under the cherry tree, we found Totoro there with a creepy grin. Run away! Run away!
