I really like this one. The colors are vivid and there seem to be no color artifacts. It reminds me of a pattern on a yukata.

Thanks guys. The background was indeed taken from a Japanese textile sample. I played around with the colors and resolution (the original had a purple background). The blizzard of petals was done by hand, one petal at a time. It was a bear trying to get it to look right... I actually flipped each petal from frame to frame as they moved across the background to get the light/dark/light/dark effect. I also had to move petals in relation to each other so they didn't look like they were all moving in exact formation.

Here's my preferred background music for this.... obvious but pleasant, played on koto, a zither-like instrument.

I'd recomend "Berserker" from the Clerks soundtrack.
[JR's mind:]
Totoro: "My love for you is like a truck berserker!"

Ahh... insanity is bliss indeed... isn't thaw what they say?

Here's a Witch Hunter Robin Icon I've been working on.... I can't get it smaller than 45k though.... HOngchua, do you think Fireworks can optimize it better?

I'm not HOngchua, and I don't play him on TV, but if Fireworks doesn't play nice, there's always the old standard, Adobe ImageReady.

I sent you two versions of the icon at 64 colors (27k) and 32 colors (21k). It doesn't look like there was much degradation (if at all). I can try going further if you like.

Let me know if the animations look good on your system. I just recalibrated my monitor settings for a little fix-it project so I can't trust the accuracy of my brightness and contrast settings.

Thanks a lot, HOnguchua! I will make a html page with all the versions and see if there's a big difference between them colorwise, but they all look great!

Looks like the Witch Hunter Robin Icon has suffered no degradation! Makes me want to get Fireworks, but I don't really have an excuse for that kind of expense... Thanks again HOngchua!

Well, if it's just an occasional icon, I don't mind taking care of them. I'm just using the automated Wizard and doing a visual check for image quality. I think my Totoro icon started losing color fidelity at 16 colors (but that's because of the GC envelope using color approximations for photo-realism).

hamano, if you or your wife (or someone you know) has a college student ID, you could get a really good price for Fireworks on TRC's website.

Not to mention Dreamweaver MX for under $100!

Maybe I should go take a community college course just for some of those deals.

Hamano, are you trying to re-revive this old thread that the other icon thread moved to now that the said thread it back in action?

You sure have been working on that for a long time, though. Have you already sent it in?

Nah, I just put it away while my current "Spring" icon was up. I also posted an announcement on the other icon thread. It's a challenge to NLee and anyone else who said they were working on a shaved Totoro... Let's see 'em!

We should be able to put it up next week....

I just created an animated Cuty Honey icon (*drool*) but I need to improved it further. I used a free program called "UnFREEz" which can build an animated GIF from a series of frames. Since it can only insert a fixed delay between frames, I have to duplicate frames to simulate a longer pulse. Can anyone suggest a free Windows program that can do variable delay between frames?

NLee, did you try any of the software listed in my previous post in this thread?

There's a link here to their PC tutorials..

Did you guys see elvlee's new icon? It's really good, but I think if there was a bit of a pause between the beard strokes it would be even slightly better. Adjusting the "interframe delay" for selected frames really makes a big difference in how the animation plays, while helping to minimize the file size.

There might be something in this TOOLBOX for gif animation... It's from this tutorial.
