artifex	post #43  on February 5, 2007 - 3:52 PM PST   I was driving my sister home yesterday, and we heard some Röyksopp on XM, and I was glad the display gave the artist info, because I totally couldn't place it, despite owning the album. That's been one of the perils for me of owning albums in iTMS from artists I've not discovered previously: everything runs together and I sometimes forget who does what. No, album art doesn't help, because at best I'll say, ok, it's from that album with that splotch on the cover. :)

With that said, have you ever listened to Boozoo Bajou? They have an album "Satta!" which might be up your ally. I'd also fully endorse any release by Nightmares on Wax, "Smoker's Delight" especially being an absolute classic. And if you haven't heard Loveage yet, do yourself a favor and get that. More in the hip-hop vein is a cd by Rae & Christian from the AnotherLateNight series. That mix is an absolute gem from begining to end. A bit on the funkier side would be Bitter:Sweet "The Mating Game." It's upbeat and sexy. If you like Supreme Beings of Leisure, you'll like this (1/2 of the group is from Supreme Beings). Also a lot of a local radio station that features southern rock, rock-country, blues-rock, etc. Basically, southern music that's more rock than anything else. Lots of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Though I think they played a Bob Dylan song ("Everybody must get stoned!") at one point. Don't think that falls under the category of southern. I'll probably revert back to Tito & Tarantula soon. Mmmm.

I'm listening to a girl singer from Australia named Lenka. She's actually acted in The Dish and a horror movie called Lost Things... Also an Estonian Bjork-wannabe named Kerli. Also a Chinese pop singer with a strange obsession with dolls named Cao Fang. She writes the sort of songs they make fun of in Detroit Metal City (the kind Negishi likes).

Okay, actually it is part of my MP3 collection, as the vinyl, the 8-track, and the cassette copies are looooong gone. "Free Money" never fails to drive me to tears. And these days, it seems so timely. Just kept on rollin' and dreamin'! Then I read her bio on the Wiki - raised Jehovah's Witness, lived in the Hotel Chelsea with Robert Mapplethorpe. She would be his kinda of woman! May he rest his weary head. And she toured with Dylan? I would have loved to see that! And for something completely different, anyone see the "Heroes" hour promo that showed before the premire. My gawd, there was soooooo much great, great music but just bits and clips. I want that soundtrack album! Would go very nice with Windy and Lisa's release.

underdog	post #54  on September 29, 2008 - 9:26 AM PDT   Lately, I've been listening to moody dusty alt-folk kinda stuff, like Calexico's amazing "Feast of Wire" (which sounds like the soundtrack to the movie I'm writing) and Neko Case. Also downloaded some Blonde Redhead and Deerhoof for more mood-enhancing wackiness. Then I rediscovered all my old Guided By Voices cd's so I put a punch of those tracks on my ipod. Also some soundtracks, including Darjeeling Limited, which I rarely tire of. And that old Raymond Scott collection, all his wacky cartoony jazz compositions.
