underdog	post #1  on November 3, 2008 - 3:15 PM PST   Share your voting stories here. Have you had any issues voting? Were there any challenges to deal with in your particular precinct? Have you heard of friends or family having issues? And if you're not sure what to do, here's a handy Voting Day Packing List video. If you've already voted, you can use some of those suggestions to help others. Bring snacks and drinks and umbrellas to people standing in long lines.
kaream	post #2  on November 3, 2008 - 3:59 PM PST   I'm afraid I can't resist a semi-hijack of underdog's thread here by linking to a thoughtful article in today's New York Times on the future of the Republican party following tomorrow's election. One name mentioned in particular caught my eye: "Saxby Chambliss, the senator from Georgia, who, observing large-scale early voting by African-Americans, warns his supporters that 'the other folks are voting.'" Back in early September I mentioned a bit of the history of Chambliss's election six years ago, which might be worth looking at again now -- post #41, at the top of the page.

I keep hearing tales of people in battleground states getting calls telling them to vote on Wednesday if they're a Democrat due to possible overcrowding-- I hope NO ONE falls for this ugly scam. Voting ends tomorrow. Do not wait 'til Wednesday. It sounds like a joke, or like something that would eliminate only stupid people from voting, but there are elderly voters out there who are more fragile mentally at times and might be susceptible to something like this. So if you hear anyone being told this, please make sure they know that there is NO voting on Wednesday! Reminds me of that classic Peanuts cartoon where (I think) Sally overhears a TV sports broadcaster say "There's no tomorrow" and freaks out thinking it literally means there's no tomorrow. But in this case, there's no Wednesday.

That and the toyota saved by 0 commercials are driving me mad. Why must commercials strive to annoy? I have vowed to NEVER buy a toyota vehicle due to there annoying advertising. But I think political advertising is the worst, its dishonest propaganda that blatantly annoys. Personally im sick to death of all these propositions. I hope other states dont have to deal with all that bs. Personally Id like to propose a proposition to end all other propositions...

But they didn't show any Stuart Smalley Daily Affirmations! WHY??? He's gonna be Senator Smalley soon. There aren't any SNL Stuart Smalley bits on youtube either. I'm having trouble convincing my daughter how funny Al Franken is....

doozer	post #10  on November 3, 2008 - 11:40 PM PST   I am so sick of election day hype that I almost don't even care. I'm not concerned about voting presidential. I mean I care how it turns out, but I'm sure I know which way California is going whether I vote or not. Some of the props matter to me though - sadly. Some of them shouldn't even be put to a vote. Somebody's fundamental rights should NOT be on the table tomorrow - but I wont start that debate here. I read the sample ballot and for most of them seriously thought "really? we're voting on this?" Some of it just seems like common sense to pass or not.

They should should just not vote, since it was "tradition" (and law) in the past for them to not vote at all.

I voted absentee but handed in my ballot in person on Saturday just to be safe. Alas, not the same story in some other places in the US today.
doozer	post #16  on November 4, 2008 - 1:36 PM PST   I've been reading that it will be a close race in Indiana. This doesn't sound like that big of a deal, but Indiana is very much a red state. In fact, in previous years they've always been one of the first states to have been declared as such after the polls had closed. Hell I lived there, I can't imagine it being a close race at all so that's pretty exciting.
underdog	post #17  on November 4, 2008 - 1:42 PM PST   Tim Robbins of all people had trouble voting today -- after voting at the same location multiple times (in NYC) including the primary this year, his name wasn't on the voter list. Conspiracy, or mistake?
hamano	post #18  on November 4, 2008 - 1:50 PM PST   In and out of our local elem. school cafeteria in 8.3 minutes! That was about 2pm. I heard the line went out the door and down to the parking lot this morning, with about a 30 minute wait. No glitches, touch-screen voting.
