How much of Bradley's coaching can be attributed to the poor defense we had throughout the cup? Was it more a lack of capable players on our team or some poor choices on Bradley's end? With Korea, Mexico, and the US out, I'm at a loss for who to root for. I didn't expect Korea and Mexico to advance very far, but now I guess the closest thing to an underdog is Ghana. Ghana it is!
Cinenaut	post #23  on June 30, 2010 - 4:15 PM PDT   It's hard to root for Ghana, since they denied the U.S. twice. On the other hand, they are the last African country and wouldn't that be sweet if they won? That said, it would be nice to see Uruguay and Paraguay advance, too.

I think his line-ups were a little iffy but some of the backups would have been just as risky. To be fair he had the courage to sit regular Oguchi O when it was clear he was not yet in shape after coming back from injury and was hurting the team. Bornstein seemed a risky pick but he played really well for the most part when called upon. But more than Bradley I think the US just needs to be better at developing really skilled fullbacks/defenders. They have great goalkeeping talent, and midfielders, right now, but need more backs and strikers. But again, how much of it is tactical and not having the team prepared on defense, I don't know. Soccer is considered a "player's game" more than just about any other team sport, because it's just nonstop when it starts, no breaks, players have to coach each other and themselves during the game for the most part. Still, some of that could be coaching. We'll be interesting to see what the US Soccer Fed determines... As you can see with teams like England, even hiring a big splashy foreign coach is no guarantee of success.

(though I think too much can be read into the final 4; both sides dominated the final 8 at least.) But Argentina looked like the Washington Generals vs. Germany's Harlem Globetrotters. Never thought I'd type those words! I feel like rooting for Uruguay though, as an underdog with a rich soccer history. Or whoever wins their game with the Netherlands, basically.

underdog	post #36  on July 12, 2010 - 2:03 PM PDT   Agreed, the 3rd place game was much more fun. They had less to lose I guess, but also were more fun to watch. The ref calling a bunch of weak yellow cards didn't help, stopped the flow of the game and got out of hand. The last 40 mins or so was pretty exciting though, i thought. Spain's D was pretty terrific.
