Oh yeah, Night of the Comet was a good one. That scene with the ghouls in the dept. store was hilarious.

"I don't think there's really a bullet in there. Oh, there it is. I just needed to be more patient."

Plus, it has the presence of Mary Woronov, always a sure sign of quality.

I was thinking about it, Underdog. XD

Here's another all-time favorite of mine: Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead. It was hilarious...and completely unrealistic!

I'll also be honest and say the early 90's semi-sexual thrillers Sliver and Single White Female hold a weird place in my heart.

When I was 10 or something, a big movie for all the guys in the neighborhood was Hot Rods to Hell.

They're souped up for thrills and there's no limit to what they'll do!

We'd always try to catch it on the Million Dollar Movie or whenever it was shown on local TV. It seems to be getting popular all over again!

Huh, think it's worth our getting Hot Rods to Hell? Request it for now. Sounds like a cult classic!

We were viewing it, at that age, with little or no irony. From the recent reviews I've read, it's a total hoot now. I'll request it!

Um, that movie description is a wee bit spoiler-ific. Not that it matters much with this movie, but still.

I forgot about one of my favorite guilty pleasures, although it's certainly not a bad movie. But it's not a critical favorite, that's for sure. The Blues Brothers. (And why was it on the Sundance Channel tonight, of all places.) It's ridiculously over the top by the end, has more gratuitous cameos than most films, the band gets back together way too easily, and the film goes way over budget, but every time it's on TV I watch it. The musical numbers, the one liners, the set pieces, the ludicrous number of villains, the sheer exuberance. It's hard to beat.

that one is pretty spoiler-ific. We'll swap it out for a more subtle, generic one tomorrow. Thanks.

Blues Brothers use to run all the time on Comedy Central. Sadly, not so much anymore. Underdog, you got me all nostalgic for the film. I might have to queue it up.

Btw, don't know if it's fair to mention this in this particular topic, but we've quietly added an import version of the Coen Bros-Sam Raimi collaboration Crime Wave to our collection. Check it out - and let us know about the quality! It's the only version available (it's an all-region disc) which is better than nothing - hopefully!

I was slightly disturbed when I found out that Dave Mirkin, showrunner for the Simpsons during seasons 5 and 6 (e.g. part of the Season 3-8 "golden age") was the director. I mean, ok, he didn't write it, but still. I might have to half-heartedly pay attention to it if it comes on TV.

Hot Rod

its quite hilarious, its really really funny and a great homage to 80s culture if you grew up in that time period at all you should love it. In any case its different than you might expect but really funny.

Definitely give it a try if you like immature weird humor when it comes out to dvd.

Thought of a new one today, Bloodsport starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. His movies haven't aged all too well to say the least, but man, something about this movie always gets me. Maybe its because all the fighters in the film seem to embody video game stereotypes that connect with my childhood nostalgia and memories of street fighter 2.

SHO NUFF! You can often find us in the office breaking out into song from the glorious 80's soundtrack for this movie.

You can now rent this at GreenCine! The prettiest, baddest, mofo down low in this town.

I loved Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death. haven't seen it since I was in high school, but I thought that Bunny (Karen Mistal)was hilarious, much more so than in Return of the killer Tomatoes. But I love all that really bad d-movie stuff, especially if the script is done with a wink and a nod.
