I'm looking for The Sheepman http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052190/ which, apparently, is not on DVD. However, googling websites, I found a website that does have it on DVD... I think.
http://www.learmedia.ca/advanced_search_result.php?categories_id=&keywords=sheepman
So, having read various articles that the DVD isn't out there, and seeing the above, I'm confused.
First of all, can I buy this movie on DVD (or even VHS)? I've never used learmedia and generally don't buy from sites unless I know their reputation.
Second, is there an official site of what DVDs are truly out there and what aren't that's up to date?
Thanks! -Mark

The key to Learmedia's inventory is on their "about our titles" page:
"All of the movies we offer on our website are unavailable via distributors of regular retail routes in North America and are part of the public domain. Our service is to offer digitally reproduced DVD and VHS replications of an original version (usually converted from PAL - European format), distributed worldwide with full-colour copies of the cover and label. You can indicate your format preference (DVD or VHS) in the comment box of the checkout process.
The audio and picture quality is pretty much identical to the original version. Which, because we only offer older and discontinued titles, in a lot of cases cannot compete with the digital DVD quality of movies made today. However, we guarantee your satisfaction and are prepared to offer you a full refund (minus shipping) if you are unhappy in any way."
So they're copies, probably DVD-R, and probably of passable quality. If you love a film, it may be worth the risk. If you do, let us know how it turns out. |

To answer your other question, here's a complete list of movies out on Region 1 DVD.
There are others out there, too, I'm sure.

| Mark, I regularly use the very reliable advanced search at Michael's Movie Mayhem to find upcoming/pending releases, and highly recommend it, though unfortunately, The Sheepman is not listed as forthcoming. |

Cool, thanks for that link as well. With the internet, sometimes the challenge isn't finding the info, it's knowing which one is the best (and also which are pretty much bogus).

You are welcome. Michael's Movie Mayhem search engine is something of a phenomenon and I doubt there is anything quite like it. That he manages to maintain that vast database with such accuracy simply amazes me. |
