I only got Karen Allen confused with Jessica Harper.

How about that Ellen Barkin? She was in a bunch of cool films up to 1989's Sea of Love. It looks like she's been working pretty steadily, and she's apparently married a billionaire, but her career since has been completely unremarkable. Poised for a comeback someday?

I'm surprised no one mentioned Fay Wray.

How about "What's going to happen to..." Haley Joel Osment when people realize he's not cute anymore and he has to go through that whole awkward McCauley Culkin phase?

Don't invite this group to run off on a tangent. You know how they are.

sinisterguffaw is referring to meltdown actress, Margo Kidder.

... or Brooke Adams.

Another one for the list. (I think she is married to Tony Shalhoub but could be mistaken.)

Interesting how it's almost all actresses we're talking about here, isn't it? Perhaps Cinenaut's right, we should watch that Looking for Debra Winger doc.

But Karen Allen's definitely a favorite of mine, too. Damn Hollywood age-ism.

How about actors?

Brooke Adams! Come to think of it, I was getting her confused with Karen Allen and Jessica Harper.

Good thing Nancy Allen was blonde. There's another one! There was a time when I was really digging all the Nancy Allen movies and then... POOF! She was gone.

Nancy was in Out of Sight! She was still pretty cute, with her chipmunk cheeks, but settling into a character actor thing rather than a leading lady thing.

I can read between the lines and what you really meant to say was her puffy chipmunk cheeks...

Whatever happened to...

Keri Russell (Felicity)
(I think she's dating Skeet Ulrich, but surprisingly, his fame and career longevity hasn't rubbed off on her, apparently...)

Phoebe Cates (or did we mention her already?)

Frank Langella (so good as Dracula, and so forth)

Whatever happened to that little kid from the film that inspired your member icon?

Phoebe Cates married Kevin Kline. Damn you, Kline!

She was great in The Anniversary Party, basically playing someone like herself (as an actress that left acting for marriage).

That's right. Maybe she just came to her senses and decided one actor per family is enough, lest the kids turn out insane otherwise.

Didn't Sissy Spacek similarly retire for awhile to be all domestic?

....(Keri Russell)cut of hair, lost TV show (and fame).
....(Skeet Ulrich)there's only one Johnny Depp.

Thank you Underdog, I new the way the thread was going that someone would eventually bring her up. What did happen to her>? "Princess Caribou"? Has anyone even seen that movie? I think she's still married to Kevin Kline, but not sure.
All I know is that all copies (vhs) of "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" were worn out during her swimming pool scene.

According to IMDb, Masahiko Shimazu made only eight films, four of which were with Ozu. He made one minor comedy with Imamura, and was in an adaptation of Tanizaki's Diary of and Old Man for Keigo Kimura. His last film was Kurosawa's High and Low in which he played Shinichi, the son of Gondo's chauffeur. After that, who knows what became of him, though his career was brief, he got to work with three of Japan's greatest directors. Maybe hamano can tell us more when he returns from his little outing.

I'd ask, "Whatever happened to Olivia Barash?" Of course, after some investigating, I now know a little more than when the question first occurred to me. If the name escapes you, she's perhaps best known for her role as Leila in Repo Man. She was also a staple of television in the 1970s and 1980s (bit parts on Little House on the Prairie and Charlie's Angels, leading to a regular role on Fame, among other shows). She's starred in a few films over the past decade; evidently she's more involved in music these days (she's composed pieces, songs I suppose, for a few films, including The Doors). Well, short story long, it seems that she made an appearance just last week at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles for a Q&A following a 20th Anniversary screening of the aforementioned Repo Man. Small world.

Another childhood crush (since, excepting Eoliano's update about Masahiko Shimazu, that's what this topic is really about, right?), whatever happened to Kim Richards? After the Witch Mountain pictures, her career was somewhat sidetracked. However, Kim and Olivia both starred in Tuff Turf in 1985! How did I ever miss that? Regardless, according to someone on the IMDb, Kim Richards is perhaps considering a return to acting. She's also Paris Hilton's aunt (her older sister is Paris' mother). I guess that I should have been a bit more polite to Ms. Hilton at Sundance this year...

informatively,
Jonathan Marlow
