Admitting it is the first step to accepting it. I didn't say stopping, just accepting it. When you accept your otaku nature, you will enjoy your anime more. If you have trouble with this, allow me to test you with a series of yes-no questions. |

Can you recognize a Kansai dialect? Do most of those around you watch anime? Do you have an anime related background, skin, or theme installed on your computer? Do you hide your anime around the house? Do you KNOW that you have a problem with anime? Do you know what the term 'otaku' is? Do you legally own all of your anime? Do you often talk in Japanese terms? Do you use the term 'otaku' or 'fanboy' more than three times a day in real life? Do your anime fantasies interfere with personal relationships? Has anyone else criticized you for watching anime? Have you ever been to an anime convention? Have you ever had an anime related dream more then once? Have you ever had an anime related dream? Have you ever made an anime related website? Have you ever made your own giant robot? Have you ever made your own manga / anime? Have you ever stayed up until the wee morning hours watching anime? Have you ever watched anime? Have you gotten to know people that you have met online in anime communities? Have you quit your job to watch anime? Have you refused sex with your girlfriend/boyfriend in order to watch anime? Have you turned down a social event in order to watch anime? Have your grades suffered due to your anime habits? If your history teacher talks about Japan do you relate the topic to anime automatically? When someone mentions camping is Counterstrike the first thing that comes to mind? When someone talks to you in real life do you turn the conversation topic to anime (or food) more than 50% of the time? When watching movies do you automatically know what the names of character types are? In Japanese? When you see cell-shading is anime the first thing that comes to mind? When you see SD, you think "super-deformed", not self-defense? |

My results:
> --------------------------------- > Can you recognize a Kansai dialect? Almost! > Do most of those around you watch anime? Not in my town, but most of my friends do. > Do you have an anime related background, skin, or theme installed on your computer? I have Webshots installed to cycle through about a hundred different wallpapers. > Do you hide your anime around the house? Just the hentai. > Do you KNOW that you have a problem with anime? Is it really a problem? > Do you know what the term 'otaku' is? My picture is in the dictionary. > Do you legally own all of your anime? More or less. > Do you often talk in Japanese terms? Iie, zetsu ni. > Do you use the term 'otaku' or 'fanboy' more than three times a day in real life? Only when I speak. > Do your anime fantasies interfere with personal relationships? You have to have them for that to happen... > Has anyone else criticized you for watching anime? Only stupid people. > Have you ever been to an anime convention? Nope, but I wish I could. > Have you ever had an anime related dream more then once? Maybe. > Have you ever had an anime related dream? Maybe. These are backwards! > Have you ever made an anime related website? Yeah, but it wasn't very good. I shut it down. > Have you ever made your own giant robot? No, but I've thought about it in my youth. > Have you ever made your own manga / anime? Nope. > Have you ever stayed up until the wee morning hours watching anime? Most nights... > Have you ever watched anime? (duh) > Have you gotten to know people that you have met online in anime communities? Not outside the communities. These people are weirdos! > Have you quit your job to watch anime? I watch anime at work, so it's all ok. > Have you refused sex with your girlfriend/boyfriend in order to watch anime? Never have. > Have you turned down a social event in order to watch anime? Only ones I wasn't going to go to to begin with. > Have your grades suffered due to your anime habits? Maybe. > If your history teacher talks about Japan do you relate the topic to anime automatically? Sometimes. > When someone mentions camping is Counterstrike the first thing that comes to mind? Oops! That isn't supposed to be there... > When someone talks to you in real life do you turn the conversation topic to anime (or food) more than 50% of the time? Just food. > When watching movies do you automatically know what the names of character types are? In Japanese? Most of the time :-) > When you see cell-shading is anime the first thing that comes to mind? ....yeah. > When you see SD, you think "super-deformed", not self-defense? I think of S&M, actually....

Oops! Missed a little proofreading for this. It was adapted from a Counterstrike addiction survey, which you can find here. |

Oh, thanks. Apparently I'm 57% otaku pure. I don't think I remember "the last time", so I guess that was before I was active on the boards. |

Actually, it turned out karmachick didn't like it.... One of the best endings ever for an anime series, though, I assure you! |

I'm 91% otaku-pure. I guess I kind of lost purity for reading an anime newsgroup, getting involved in a flame war, and having (utterly unintentionally) instigated the flame war.
Oh, well. I could easily see myself becoming addicted to anime, but still be addicted to saying I really don't get, and then being addicted to wanting message boarders to like me, while being addicted to looking and pointing out all the cliches in anime whether they exist or not.
Being an addiction-addicted woozy, is a sad and hard life...

karmachick isn't alone, its very poorly animated and the male character design is the worst ive ever seen. I couldn't watch it because of the animation alone, shallow yes, but it was just plain fugly. |

Ooh, time for me to do a frame by frame analysis of Kiki's delivery service in English track vs. English captions vs. English subtitles vs. Japanese voice acting to see the difference in Japanese voice acting in concept of kawaii vs. the american concept of wise-guy.
Oh... I don't like anime.
