AHogue brought this up in another discussion so I thought it would be nice to discuss this question here
>>>>>> Some people watch fansubs, others wait till things come out on DVD.
So,
1) What's good that's not released yet?
2) What's good that's been released recently?
(And of course the converse of both.) >>>>>>
Recap of new series that have been added to GreenCine lately:
Nighthead Genesis Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: Anime Legends Baccano! Claymore, also discussed in this thread Ouran High School Host Club Darker than Black Clannad Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket
Also added recently was the latest volumes from the Death Note, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles, Lucky Star, and Bleach. Coming out in April is the complete Freedom collection, which I am looking forward to seeing.
Another question: are we missing anything that you've seen lately that we should hunt down on DVD? I get the feeling that some of the stuff we're adding are just continuations of series that people aren't following anymore. Outside of Darker than Black and Baccano! there's not much in the way of new series that I've added that I'm motivated to begin watching. Suggestions are much much appreciated.

I'm watching Baccano and Ouran High School Host Club, I'm liking both.
I'm kinda LOVING Baccano though. It's so pulpy. |

well out of that list of things that recently came to greencine I haven't seen some of them but of the ones I have seen I like Darker than Black and Claymore.
As for things not released Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu is so moe I could die. I dont know if that will release in the US but it should.
I haven't been watching much anime lately though. |

Fun Fact:
Death Note is one of the most ridiculously over the top series ever. At times so ridiculously dramatic that I actually giggled. |

Are you jaded? Are you cynical? Is your heart hard?
Skip this post. I understand the survival value in that path but just don't worry,
what comes next is just not for you.
Key makes erotic games, visual novels actually. But their main author, Maeda Jun, writes with a heart as big as the sun. First, there as Kanon, then Air, and then Clannad. They made censored versions for the younger crowd and when they made the anime, the focus was on the story and it could be broadcast in Utah, no problem.
When has there ever in the history of the U.S. that basically, a prono had a story so compelling, with characters so engrossing, it was remade into a mainstream TV series? That is what it seems to me happened.
And now, Clannad. Now, I am not a prude, hell, just the opposite, I am rather a bit of a porndawg myself (do you know where my icon is from?), but Clannad has power and characters and has ignited a flood of moe passion in my soul.
There was a time when we spoke openly about love, a love for all humanity and for community. We would exchange flowers and we would wear them in our hair. Clannad is much more complex than that but the story builds toward that spirit, with bumps and pain and trials along the way...and a very quirky mystery.
I said it before, but I will stay it again. In any future, relationship I have with another, if it starts to get very serious, we will watch Clannad together. And she does not break down crying, or at least shed a few tears before it is over, we will have no future together.
"I have seen desparation explode into pain, and I never ever what to see it again"
But I am not jaded. I am not cynical. I do not have a hard heart.
And I do love Clannad.
Maybe you will, too? |

| Damn, lonely times for an otaku. Am I a thread killer or has interest in anime evaporated? |

Shigurui Death Frenzy is AWESOME.
The animation is gorgeous. The minimal use of soundtrack is creepy and makes me feel like I've been transported to feudal japan. Lots of intense cricket chirping and piercing drums. The pace is a little slow but some scenes EXPLODE with a few ultra violent and shocking moments.
Can't wait to finish it! |

Oh god no. This, I believe, is the only anime I couldn't continue watching for fear I'd claw my own eyes out or be sick. >_> I am not down for the Shig. |

Maria+Holic is coming! Ethical fansubbers have quit (probably got a letter from the lawyers) and it is licensed now for Region 1 distro, Right Soon Now. If you happen to find the opening, even the Japanese version has enough English to let you know that this is Anime weird and funny, in the tradition of "The Excel Saga" and "FLCL". My first yuri comedy. Takes place at an all girl's school that happens to be Catholic and the hardcore orthodox will be offended and that warms my John Carpenter-loving heart, sorry. I try to be a Good Unitarian but the Church of Rome is sooooo weird and has that whole whore/madonna thang down.
Watch for it. |

I haven't been able to find any information on this DVD release, unfortunately, but will keep eyes and ears peeled! |
