OK - I admit it - i am a student of all that crosses the line.

A local movie store was cleaning out their anime vhs stock and I picked up Lupin III (titled Rupan!) since i'd seen the one that Miyazaki had something to do with. I also picked up a hentai - Tokio Private Police part II. I was shocked to find it somewhat...interesting. That is my first introduction to Hentai and am curious - what is out there and what is worth the time to watch?

So - considering I am not an anime nut - I adore Miyazaki - but that is where my experience ends... can anyone recommend some good hentai? Stuff that will not totally insult my intelligence, and which is neither overly cutesy, or misogynistic in any way.

Thanks.

This discussion was about consensual sex hentai, a good place to start, especially if you want to watch them with your sweetie.

I'm sure we'll hear from NLee soon. Meanwhile, check out some reviews by fans.

That's ridiculous! What makes you think that I'll be reading a sleazy topic such as this one?

Alright! I'm doing this just to learn how to post html links. Don't get any wrong ideas.

Here it is! NLee's seal of approval for Quality Hentai Animes, listed in order of preference:

Masquerade - Beautiful and Erotic. A masterpiece among hentai animes.

Tokio Private Police Hentai with a heart-warming story.

Teacher's Pet - Here bang there bang everywhere bang bang. Good bang for the buck!

Demon Warrior Koji - UROTSUKIDOJI with more sex and less tentacles.

Bible Black - Like watching a live-action porn movie, down to the camera angles.

Imma Youjo vol.1-5 - Good filler discs as you wait for the good stuff.

(Check out my reviews for details)

Well, said, there NLee! You are a hoot! But I want to add that the following do have some very, very rough trade:

> Demon Warrior Koji - UROTSUKIDOJI with more sex and less tentacles.
>
It is still a horror film and has one scene that give me nightmares. I can't spoil it for you but you have been warned.

> Bible Black - Like watching a live-action porn movie, down to the camera angles.

Also some *very* unusual sexual situations and some very, bloody scenes. The worst horror is the English dub - why o why did they bother! One reviewer mentioned a scene that actually made him ill, but I will not. And this applies to the three DVD series as a whole except for that scene that I will not talk about.

larbeck, I'm surprised at you! You must be feeling a bit randy tonight (I saw your other post about your favorite condoms)...

I was going to let NLee handle this thread, but if YOU're pitching in, I guess I'll throw in my 2 cents.

Yasuomi Umetsu is like a genius teenage boy. He loves to intricately plot and draw hyperkinetic action and sex. He's worked in mainstream anime, too. It's funny to watch the bird-costumed scientific ninja show Gatchaman if you're familiar with Umetsu's more personal work. The action and some of the character designs are there, but no raunchy stuff. (Just a hint of skin when the female swan-costume ninja transforms).

His adult-oriented titles feature potboiler action movie plots, and story elements and characters that you would be familiar with if you've seen a lot of films like Luc Besson's La Femme Nikita and The Professional. The action is over-the-top and sometimes ultra violent, with lots of explosions, gunfire, and blood. If anything, Umetsu puts even more energy into doing the sex scenes, which are hardcore and highly detailed. After seeing these films, you can't help coming away with a feeling of awe at just how much Umetsu seems to be enjoying himself creating these titles, the same kind of glee expressed by Tarantino in a film like Kill Bill.

Umetsu's character designs for female leads are very distinct. They have big vacant eyes and are very pretty and precisely drawn. They have full cheeks and resemble girls from illustrations of children from the 40's or 50's. The male characters are pretty much caricatures, and their appearance is often used for comic or monstrous effect.

Make sure you rent or buy the director's cuts rather than the tamer "BestBuy" edited versions.

Kite is about Sawa, a teenage assassin-for-hire who dreams about leading a normal schoolgirl's life. A tragi-poetic romance in a hardcore shell.

Mezzo Forte is about a trio of mercenaries/detectives-for-hire who go up against a crime-lord's family. NOTE: A GreenCine reviewer has posted that the version available here is the edited version, not the uncut sexually explicit version shown in the cover art.

A long time ago, Brian DePalma had an idea about making a sexually explicit suspense film starring real porn stars like Seka. He ended up making Body Double instead. I think Umetsu is fulfilling DePalma's vision after all these years...

Naughty anime? GreenCINE has a *lot* of it (thank you GC for not being NF!) :-)

A lot of Hentai suffers from over the top grotesqueness... the kind where a story (or lack of it) gets so self-absorbed that it detracts from the entertainment value. Of course this is a matter of taste, so I am deliberately avoiding suggesting titles like Urotskidoji and Wicked City, etc.

Anyways, a lot of "good" Hentai is not available on DVD at all (Magical Twilight), or GC used to carry it but consider it "out of print" (F3... although it's easy to find if you want to buy it). Worse, it's *common* to find the same movie is edited/censored in DVD form... but the VHS is intact (I guess the newfound popularity of DVD and anime has some vendors afraid of lawsuits from people who *choose* to serve this to their unsupervised children... who knows?).

F3
Magical Twilight

If you collect anime/hentai, these are worth checking out. They're hentai, but with a comedy slant.

Looking at the GC inventory, I suggest these:

Dominion Tank Police (seen)
Masquerade (havent seen)
Miyuki-Chan in Wonderland(seen)
Plastic Little - The Adventures of Captain Tita(seen... pretty good. Listed as Hentai but it's relatively mild)

That's about it from me. There's plenty of anime that's heavy enough on the "fan service" to be associated with Hentai, such as Bastard! (a funny anime, if you take it as a parody of anime... not seriously)

If you're not sure... look at the artwork. If the female characters have cat ears and whiskers, that's a good sign. The tail is optional, but further evidence something is a "fun" title.

In many cases, you may see photo of some adult movie actress on the cover, and the synopsis proudly says: "featuring the voice telent of porn star blah blah". More often then not, this implies that the hentai anime is a cheap piece of junk.

It is unclear if you meant this, but I would never consider "Miyuki-Chan in Wonderland" as hentai. It is definitly ecchi, but since it is only 30 minutes long with the same damn song over and over and over, it makes me wonder of CLAMP was a studio full of lame-oo maximi! Now, it did seem like a really good hentai with all of the good stuff cut out - it could have easily been a pair full length movies (note: there are actually two 15 minute eps on the DVD - "Miyuki-Chan in Wonderland and Miyuki-Chan in Mirrorland"), if they have a good composer vary the music a whole lot of more. And that would have been a pleasure to behold.

It is almost worth a rental just to see how amazing it is that nice little J-pop tune can become so annoying in such a short time. Seriously, the FBI should use the soundtrack to interrogate prisoners - but in at Git-mo, not in the U.S.A. where the Constitution still supposedly applies. Boy, it will make them talk!

Oh, it does have some nice artwork - but do NOT rent it expecting a hentai or even a decent anime. Thank the sweet goddess I did not buy the sucker! But I would not mind having the artbook - is there one?

And if you take exception to my criticism of CLAMP - please, tell me where the Good Stuff is! It ain't this or "Tokyo Babylon", that's for sure.

But that would be another topic.

While we are at it, can someone explain to me how GreenCine decide which anime should be classified as "Hentai"?

For example, "Plasic Little" is considered hentai by GC, even though it is really mild and innocent, with limited nudity and no sex at all.

"Agent Aika" on the other hand, offers far more nudity and sexually suggestive scenes, but it is not considered Hentai by GC.

"Sorcerer Hunters" is another strange case. It get classified by GC as Hentai initially. I wrote and told them to re-classify it, but it always get moved back to hentai a few weeks later, and I have to write again.

And why should "Vampire Hunter D" and "Dominion Tank Police" be considered Hentai, anyway?

Okay, I did start a new topic, Where is CLAMP's Good Stuff? in the continuing struggle to stop myself from hijacking threads.

I didn't save the email, but I did send support@greencine.com a note about one title and they reclassifed it. I believe that I dimly recall that they depend on the distributors to tell them if it is hentai, who probably depend on their source, who depends on someone who may not speak English and we have a world wide version of the old gossip game. But you don't REALLY want Greencine to have to look at every single DVD to see if they have it classified correctly, do you? Beside the extra expense - who wants to wait?

Hell, I even discovered that Wal-Mart offered a hardcode hentai title and I am so sure that they did not intend that!

Try it, if you have not, if you think a title is misclassifed, email your local neighbor Greencine Angel at support@greencine.com. They are helpful and pretty and good for the soul. And in the interest of full disclosure, I am just their happy customer except they give me a nice T-shirt.

That's so unfair! I have written to support@greencine.com and corrected dozens of mis-classified hentai titles. But I got nothing in return. At leaset I should get a pair of panties from the Najica collector's box set!

Knights of Ramune isn't considered Hentai either, even though it's a lot more ecchi looking than Dominion Tank Police.

My theory is that the GC Editor and Associate Editor (who shall remain nameless) have a genetically engineered hentai monkey (they have monkeys for everything) hooked up to a tumescence monitor. They screen anime for this monkey 18 hours a day. Anytime the monitor goes over 7, the title is classified hentai. 7 and under, non-hentai.

I think this monkey has a thing for mini-tanks and characters named after desserts...

Dear Sir or Ma'am,

I am writing this letter to inquire about the Tumescence Monkey position. While I have no previous work experience in this career, I have been an avid anime and hentai fan for many years. Additionally, I believe I could fulfill all the duties and responsibilities of the job without needing to rely on performance enhancing chemicals which could skew results, as is evidenced by your previous Monkey's classifications of the titles "Vampire Hunter D" and "Sorcerer Hunters".

I promise that if I am hired as your Tumescence Monkey, I will be the best Monkey that I can. I know the 18 hour work days will be long and sometimes difficult, but I will arrive to work on time and with a bright and enthusiastic attitude.

Thank you for your consideration, I believe you will find my compensation requirements very reasonable.

Okay, time to 'fess up! How many of us GreenCine members are actually monkeys? Raise your paws and I'll count us off!

One!

You don't want to work for GC as the Tumescence Monkey. They pay you peanuts, and their benefit package sucks.

I heard their last hentai classifier monkey went blind after just a few weeks of hard work!

Like I said, I suspect that monkey was reckless in his use of perfomance enhancing chemicals. I'm not going that route.

I've thought this through. I was born to be a Tumescence Monkey. I've been in training for this job since puberty. There's more to life than working for a salary and benefits. Sometimes an opportunity comes along for work that a monkey will find deeply gratifying on many different levels. Emotionally. Physically. Spiritually.

And I do know that workers' comp won't help cover the cost of waxing my hairy palms, but I assume it would cover blindness from work-related stress. But according to snopes.com the blindness thing is just an urban legend anyway, so I'll take my chances.
