oldkingcole	post #1  on November 28, 2004 - 9:40 PM PST   I saw "Ray" last night. Jamie Foxx's performance is fantastic. He's been getting a lot of notice, and I'd say he's a shoe-in for an Oscar nomination. But the other performances in the movie are also terrific. Kerry Washington as Ray's wife is really good. And Regina King, in her "keep the anger" scene (which segues into "Hit the Road, Jack"), is pitch-perfect (and I'm not speaking of her singing, but the emotional tone of her acting performance). Even the minor roles are played by actors who bring them to life in interesting ways. I didn't expect to like this movie as much as I did. It's a little bit cartoony at times, but mostly this works in its favor -- that "amplification through simplification" approach pays off here pretty well. My main disappointment was that it doesn't cover much beyond the 1960s. I may have to add Collateral to my queue now, to see if Foxx's performance there is of the calibre of his performance in "Ray".

I can't see Jamie Foxx in a serious role, so I'm hoping it lives up to the hype. If not, there's always the music: The soundtrack is, of course, terrific.
Catullus	post #3  on January 26, 2005 - 2:31 AM PST   It is an amazing movie one of the best ive ever seen, Im not sure how much it actually sticks to the truth but it made me cry at the scene when he was a little boy, if you have seen the movie you know what scene im talking about. The whole movie is good throughout, it was long but I wish it would have been longer, Id have liked to have seen what happened next haha.
