Most reviewers and bloggers I trust have said it's a blast. Good to see Raimi returning to his roots, sort of.
DLeonard	post #4  on June 5, 2009 - 12:31 AM PDT   Yes I did (see the movie). Thoroughly enjoyed it. And it's rated PG-13!! There are some truly inspired Evil Dead moments, but it feels more grounded than one of those. Alison Lohman certainly deserves a considerable amount of credit for the movie's success. Try your best to avoid all spoilers before going in.
troublemaker	post #5  on June 6, 2009 - 10:33 AM PDT   The good word-of-mouth on this film has really enticed me to go, though I'm kicking myself for not having gone on opening weekend. Seeing it in a theater full of Raimi junkies must've made for a great viewing atmosphere.

But overnight I've changed my tune. I think it's really nice that he made a PG-13 movie with GREAT scares and funny moments, without having to go too gory. And I thought it had a great message for people in that age group. Thought my ears would start bleeding. Sadly this is my first Raimi horror experience in theaters. Is this typical of how loud he intends the films to be when viewed? Might need to rewatch Evil Dead at a ridiculous decibel level..

If it is too loud, you are too old.

Sam Raimi horror is often not very scary to me, because a lot of it just involves being buffeted about by unseen forces. This is probably the scariest Sam Raimi film, because along with the buffeting, you get some nice evocative scariness. Sections of that seance scene were really something. Underdog, I'm not sure which unwritten cardinal sin of cinema you're talking about (in your review). How about a hint? Oh, wait - I think I know what it might be.

Oh, wait - I think I know what it might be. > --------------------------------- Well as a cat owner perhaps I'm biased... ;-) but I'm sure it's an unwritten rule to not have happen what happens there. But then there's a pretty hilarious, if sick, er, recurrence, as it were with said animal that pretty much makes it worthwhile. I'm just glad my g/f didn't see it, she'd have been traumatized for weeks from that one bit. Anyway, glad you liked it! I agree it was scary, even though some of complained or pointed out that it's "PG-13 scariness" I disagree, I found it plenty scary enough!
Cinenaut	post #14  on June 23, 2009 - 3:38 PM PDT   Okay, that's what I thought you were talking about. I should have known, but "cinematic sin" conjured up camera angles or lighting or something. As a cat owner, I agree, but I imagine that a puppy in that scene would be an even larger cinematic sin for a lot of people. Ted Raimi only had a voice cameo this time, and there was no Bruce Campbell at all, as far as I could tell.
