I would really love a way to flag a review/customer comment as containing a spoiler.

Today I was looking at reviews of 2 movies that a friend recommended to me.
In the first movie, one of the customer comments says that the MAIN CHARACTER DIES IN THE END!!!! But he doesn't feel this is a spoiler to the main points of the movie.
A secone movie treated me to a review which describes one of the complex plot points and the result which it leads to!

What can be done about this? Maybe a system so we can flag messages with spoilers?
There's one website www.craigslist.org which has a system for flagging messages for review if they are spam. Maybe we can have something like this to flag messages for review if they contain spoilers?
If there are enough flags about a review or customer comments, maybe it can be listed as a link to "review with spoiler" instead of having the actual spoiler appear on the page. That way people could choose to see it.

I'll settle for any solution really, It's just very upsetting to read about a movie you really want to see, but have it spoiled by some key information given away by a blurb or review.

anyone else encountering this?
cheers!

Hey Josh,

we agree, spoilers are bad! I'm glad you brought this up. Hopefully for now, your message will encourage people to warn everyone about spoilers in their reviews with a "**WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD**" notice (or some people use the blackout code to put black highlighting over a spoiler in their review or message posting).

But we think this is enough of a problem that we are going to add "spoiler flags" to our list of things for upcoming site builds. This could indeed be along the lines of member review ratings, and something that staff can come in and select, as well. Hopefully this will help once implemented.

We (editors) try to scan for spoilers in reviews before approving them, but frankly, get so many reviews to read and approve every day that it becomes difficult for us to look for, spoilers -- or even always know when they are there. if we do catch an obvious giveaway, we'll try to write the member and ask them to place a spoiler warning in the review, but again, we can't always catch these (and we can't edit member reviews, which is a good thing overall).

So, look for this feature in the future. And thanks for your patience.

And yes, people, please be considerate in your reviews -- if you're revealing a major plot thread, how a film ends, etc, put a warning in your review before it. Protect innocent eyes! :-)

Thanks,
Craig
