This isn't a major problem, it's not even really a minor problem, but I notice GC takes several seconds to load compared to other websites. I notice this at home (DSL) and at work (T1, I think)... er... I mean, only at home because I never surf the net at work...

I'm just wondering if other people notice this too and if the GC technogeeks had a reason. Again, no big concern.

Yes. I think GC is pre-loading the queues, now, when we first surf to it. Do you have a large queue?

Try deleting your cookie for GC and closing your browser, then restart it, and you'll see it only takes a couple of seconds. Then, when you start logging in, it'll take a while to get in.

My queue (145 titles) loads just a little faster than the main page. The main page's load time doesn't seem to change depending on whether or not I've already loaded it in this session. It loads right up, then hits a wall at the "Most Recent Lists" and "Most Recent Reviewed" (shouldn't that be "recently"? or maybe "Reviews"?)... it stalls there for a few seconds, then the rest comes in pretty quickly.

Ah, see, my primary queue is still almost 10 times the size of yours.

Working on cutting it down, however...

Hi guys,

We are having our techies look into the front page loading issue as well as the queue page loading issue. I cannot promise you anything right now but rest assured that these issues are on our radar.

Thanks for the reports.

Hey, Artifex, how fast does your queue load? my 150 takes about 10 seconds. Since it's supposed to be pre-loading it, yours should take only a little longer, yes?

(or maybe a little faster! I'm told that the local DSl isn't full DSl speed, so maybe your connection is faster....)

I have about the same amount in my queue, and it takes a little longer for me (say around 10-15 seconds). I have DSL, but I don't think I connect at the max speed. I think I'm somewhere around 600Kbps?

That's 10 to 15 seconds of my life I'll never get back. Thanks alot Greencine! I should sue or something... maybe call Oprah and see what she can do.

Significantly longer, at least when I had 1500+ in the main queue. I've been moving more titles off to lists slowly but surely as I get better organized (still wish they'd implement group moves between lists, etc.)

How much longer? Well, I never timed it, but over a minute, I'm pretty sure. Which, if it was 10 times as big as yours, kind of makes sense.

Free/worthless advice: if this is the issue, I don't think it's bandwidth that's the problem, especially when subsequent calls to the queue are much faster. Something is making the database load slowly into the server's buffer, is my guess. Whatever happened, it started only a couple weeks ago.

Has Greencine.com had some problems lately?
It's always been a dependable site in the past, but the past 3 days, I've gotten timeout errors. Anyone else?

I'm still getting slow initial loads, but no timeouts.
Interestingly, when I kill my GC cookies, close my browser, and start over, I get really fast loading. Then, when I sign in... slow again.

Still wondering why. I now only have ~115 titles in my queue, too, instead of the 2500+ I used to have.

If you have "Show Recommendations" turned on, this might be the source of your page-loading issues. Edit your profile, mark this second-to-last field "no" and see if that solves the problem...

Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem.

This might help: On the Edit Profile Page, select "yes" for "Are you interested in meeting other members?" and see if that resolves your problem.

I wager that was never a problem. As for page-loading, back to the drawing board...

Eoliano, I've always had it set to yes. I'm just hiding it right now. That should save even more bandwidth. :)

Gosh, how did you ever prune your queue? Mine is approaching 1000, but I can't bear to cut it back.

Well, I didn't want to mention it, but I felt compelled by the email response times at the time to restart my NF subscription on February 15th. I've offloaded 315 discs to my NF queue, currently. (after the 30+ they've sent me in the 2 months) My GC queue + my private GC lists now total a little less than 2000. I'm slowly just deleting out a lot of list titles, too - like all of the blockbusters, because I figure either someone in my family or a friend or the public library will have those, if I want to borrow them. Some were just poor choices to begin with. :) Not to mention, several titles have simply become unavailable here in the last few months.

Along a similar line, it appears that greencine.com (207.20.18.93) rejects http(s) connections. www.greencine.com (198.87.29.12) still works.

odd : )

Any chance we can hit the site from greencine.com as well as www.greencine.com?

Is now a good time to mentiont that the GC search is pretty slow too?
