I can't rent movies if you can't search for them.

Well, as a matter of fact, there's a thread about doing quicker searches on GreenCine RIGHT HERE using Google.

If you're using Firefox, you can try the favlet I just came up with... much faster than the GC search engine, but there are pros and cons. It's based on one of dpowers' favlets.

Firefox Google GC Title Specific Search

If you click on the above link, you should get a blank to type in a word or two from the title you're looking for.

StAlf, I have to agree with you, GC's server is slow, and if you have a dial-up account, it can become tiresome waiting for a search to materialize or a genre page to load. However, if you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, then I suggest you download go here, download the latest version of Mozilla Firefox, and see if that improves your page load time. Then (as pooja suggests), once you have downloaded the Firefox browser, try dpowers' handy Firefox Google Title Search which he specifically designed for us (and himself).

If you're on a dial-up account, the slowness is probably due as much to the size of the page as the slowness of the server. GC's main page is a whopping 118K, and that's just the HTML without the javascript or images it loads. That's pretty obscene.

This is mostly because they are using a "tag-soup" style layout with a million tables, I think. Switching to a CSS/XHTML layout would probably reduce the page size by at least 50%.

Hi all,

We do have an issue about genreal site slowness, search slowness in particular. We are working on fixes for this. Actually, just recently we improved the load time for the queue page. We appreciate your continued patience. If you'd like to give a detailed feedback on the problem/s please send an email to support@greencine.com so that we can look and evaluate those as we go along.

Thank you,
Giselle

I noticed a difference too. And with my queue approaching 3000, it's much appreciated...LOL

That's almost certainly affected your initial login speed, too. Or, if you save your password, that means your initial load of the GC website. I and others have noticed that getting the queue and wishlist down below 500, even from 600, is like flipping a switch, and everything suddenly loads much faster.

Actually login is pretty quick for me. I don't use search much any more, I think I pretty much have found any older movie I'm interested in. I mostly add movies from my queue from the new and coming soon lists.

To find out which movies I'm getting (when too impatient to wait for e-mail) I use rental history instead of loading my queue. I peruse my queue about once every other week (major project...which I think I'll do now...LOL)

Maybe they fixed that after we complained :) Okay, never mind about that. true, I also look for movies using the coming soon/new to GC pages, and also I have a script for Greasemonkey that adds automatic GC search to each movie/actor link that an IMDB page has.
